Really sad to hear. The last time they shut down a server was in 2008, so I am oddly surprised.

"Yesterday, we received a letter of formal notice from US and french lawyers, acting on behalf of Blizzard Entertainment, preparing to stand trial against our hosting company OVH and ourselves in less than a week now. This means the de facto end of Nostalrius under its current form."

This confuses me. For those who remember this past summer we were facing legal issues and I merely evaded them by swapping hosts around and masking the true location of the server. I did this because it was a 3rd-party law firm acting on behalf of Blizzard in a piss-poor way. I figured if anything was ever truly legitimate we would receive a cease & desist letter from Blizzard themselves. However, we were not "preparing to stand trial" by any means, so perhaps this is an entirely different case.

Either way, this is very sad to read about. Especially from a server that was offering so much to the community, and did it completely for free... It makes me wonder why Blizzard hasn't batted an eye at Warmane.

Nost will open source all their code and allow players to download their characters' data. This is funny because it will spawn dozens more vanilla servers running the same code Nostalrius did... and ultimately this is worse for Blizzard.

Well I guess when a server becomes too big Blizzard just comes in and shuts it down. Maybe Warmane is next or SF only time will tell.. But for now let's hope some of those players will join other servers like ours would be great to have some more population here.

How would be to see thousands of players assaulting SF and crash the hell out of it lol. It won't handle such a massive amount of sad ppl ready to farm every vanilla/tbc server who stand in their way. New pvp guild wich born over the night and chasing Fak every single bg. :D

In the sweet Iranian era the server went down sometimes completely random, I don't know if it had with server stability to do but 400+ did it simply laggy when there were many battlegrounds on going, I'm sure the server is much better since 3-4 years ago. But it feels unlikely that SF can handle 1000 players.

Nostralius and Smolderforge are very different, a Nostralius player would come here and stay for the proper functioning of the PVE probably, but it doesn't exist. Let's say that some crew from Nostralius want a new server and check out SF, they can't do proper PvE, they can't handle the corrupt arena, they can't handle the battlegrounds because its organized with zerging. There is no reason to stay at all here.I Just wanted to be short poor in my previus post, that's all.

Eradicating Fak is not difficult, but it requires some form of dedication.

Totally agreed, anyway, since Nostalrius had 3 realms: Vanilla PVP, Vanilla PVE, and TBC, we can rely on 2 of them, pvp and tbc. Of course I don't think the end of such a high populated server would have a big impact regarding spreading players all over the alternatives, including SF. Instead I put my money on some future "Nostalrius wanna be" fresh new server hosted by their dedicated community, or something like that.

The funny part with SF is that everytime I join bg, dueling, raiding or simple chatting, I end up marking myself as "dnd" because of trash talking. But even so, I don't know what imaginary milf is fucking with my brain but it keeps me here somehow. Some serious shit makes me feel good playing here hours and hours, and I don't bother to find out what it is because it could ruin my entuziasm and I don't want that to let it happen.

Maybe the same formula will work for the new comers: popular server disbanded, suicide toughs, found SF, instant shits, quick rush everything, sleep well after.
