Re: Make GY farming bannable
You offer all interesting perspectives but let me enlighten you all.
Smolderforge is not dying. I've heard the term "population decrease" for 3 years now. Server populations fluctuate. I literally don't know why people can't understand this. This of it in the terms of marketing or economically. Economies go up and down, yes? And companies do well during specific times of the year, yes? It's exactly like this. Wait until mid summer and I bet we will be peaking again like we did last summer. Last summer we were straining to keep 410 people online and having a queue of 40+ people. Yes, that happened. It will happen again. The population was down to around 290 a month ago and it's back to around 350 now. It's not dying, it's just that time of the year. People are getting ready for finals, doing term papers, finishing things up, etc. You'll find population relies heavily of what is happening around the world.
I can say this in regards to battlegrounds. Smolderforge has DEGRADED, but is not dying. Fun fact, the title system has been in LESS THAN ONE YEAR. It was implemented in the very first changelog post: http://www.smolderforge.com/forums/view ... 016#p25016
Less than one year. When we implemented the title system (it says returned because we had problems with it and only had it in for like 1 week prior) NO one had 15k kills. It was unheard of. Some were close, at around 12k, but not 15k. Look where we are now.
Before the title system, or at least in its early days before it took off the server was at its height of quality. Back in early June I remember actually playing Smolderforge some myself (which is rare) and enjoying it. Battlegrounds were going well, everything was coming along nicely. The summer improvements were released early and S3 became fully honor-bought. We implemented the two Shattrath malls, added Outland quests, and lots of other Misc. stuff (see changelog).
Here we are, not even one year later and I've raised the HK amount needed for titles and had tremendous outrage, we have players with 200k honorable kills and the entire server has turned into a massive farming of HKs in battlegrounds.
The best improvement I can think of is to implement circumventions to prevent these problems from arising them. You claim I'm "wrong" to think of implementing them, but there needs to be ways to prevent this from continuing to degrade the quality of battlegrounds on Smolderforge. Namely, the result of GY farming is directly related to premades. Directly. This is only a major concern in WSG at the moment and I believe it needs to be addressed. I'm already looking into ways to go about this.
Who knows? Maybe it's time we simply removed the title system. After all it was supposed to be a fun feature, not at the expense of the server quality.

I was more saddened by the fact some of the donor titles were removed(Most) when the title system was implemented :(Mynce wrote:would that mean the return of the title giver at the donor mall like in the old days?Henhouse wrote: Who knows? if it makes a return, that'd be coolbeans
Re: Make GY farming bannable
WHAT IF:
For every battleground a player wins, the player is rewarded a special token....a "reputation token"
With these tokens, players are able to complete a quest that will rank them up one
OR
Players are able to farm up the required HKS to move to the next rank.
Once a player is ranked up, all reputation tokens are removed and the player is than given that options to:
A) To collect the tokens once again*
B) Farm up the required HK's.
*The required reputation tokens will increase as the player increases in rank.
With this system we'll have lower ranked people achieve more from killing others -- but! as a player moves up the ranks the "reputation token" system will allow a player to achieve a rank much faster than just obtaining kills.....hopefully directing players to move towards objects rather than kills.
ON A SIDE NOTE. I dislike the idea of titles being given to the donars. I feel that a title should be rewarded - not sold.

Re: Make GY farming bannable
That's actually an great idea Hardlight but what if your already High Warlord =P? Then I won't do the objectives anyways since I already got the rank =D.
If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you..

Re: Make GY farming bannable
Fak...you got a point. I'm just puking suggestions but...
Amongst players who have reached max rank, they receive a different token, lets say a "Token of gratitude" (TOG)...for winning.
Players at max rank will be given a TOG for winning a battleground. To keep the competitive edge still amongst factions, TOG's will also be removed from the player when they lose.
So what gives about gaining or losing?
I believe with a bit of some twirking, the server could keep track of the Top 5 players with the highest amounts of "TOG's" of both factions allowing them to gain a "reputation".
At the end of every month the top BG player of Both factions are given 10 Bind on Equip CUSTOM (like have glow effects or something) tabards, that he or she can reward even further to his or her Guild/ premade team.
During this time all TOG's will be removed and all tabards of the previous "season" will be removed.

Re: Make GY farming bannable
I strongly dislike the use and issue of custom items such as these "tokens".
It was on our SF/Pineapple wotlk realm and it was absolutely terrible. I'm sure Hen feels the same way.
However.
The idea of selling titles for honor is a new perspective. For instance, you have xxxx amount of honor, and the High Warlord title costs xxxx honor.
But I don't like that idea either. The system is fine. Get used to it, or qq enough and get it removed.
Like you said.
Titles should be earned not sold.

Re: Make GY farming bannable
Another alternative (as said earlier) is to simply place timers on BG's.
