Some hope in the core sector

Post by Henhouse »

So 2.4.3 is on the downward hill now. There's no denying it. ArenaTournament's TBC dev just stepped down and declared the server will be left to die now. Rendering us, one of the last few remaining populated TBC realms.

I've often complained about how ancient OregonCore has become. It's simply outdated. TrinityCore for Wrath is so advanced now. But it was too much of a task to try reworking 700,000+ lines of code and files, etc. with only very few people still around at Oregon. Well, recently SkyFireEMU, the main 4.x+ server community based off Trinity picked up OregonCore and has now begun to take over 2.4.3 support. I browsed through their commits and many are restructuring and converting things to be the faster, proper way to go about handling things. PreparedStatements, etc. I feel as if more is coming too.

I've sent the developer an email asking if he plans on long-term continued development. If so, I will be looking into converting Smolderforge's core which is essentially still Oregon to this newer updated one on Git instead of HG.

All in all, I'm excited! It appears there is still light in the tunnel ahead, folks.

Welp. There goes AT?

I'm actually glad to see TBC hasn't been completely abandoned.
Yey.

No problem, that Betty guy will fix AT TBC in a week!

Anyway, that's really some reasonable hope, quite curious how that will turn out.

So far the core isn't per se public at the moment or, well it's PUBLIC but it's not like open or ready for people to use. It seems safe and there's a lot of good performance stuff in there now that I want to test out. Of course we'll have to port over all of Darkgroom's things or whatever too so it will be some time.

This move is important because it actually takes the approach of being exactly like Trinity and it also adds multirealm support making my life even easier for Wrath in the future.

Just don't rush it imo. As you've said and know well enough how many lines that core has, it can't be so efficient in such a short time. ^^
But if that project gets overhauled (that structure... THAT STRUCTURE WAAAAAAAAAAAGH) that would be totally awesome, just might take a bit, unless Betty helps ofc, then it's done in 2 hours.
Nah, that never gets old. =P

The problem is, you all don't know how to fix problem probably, you make hackfix solutions for everything, backporting awful code, wich destroys even more then it fixes.

So Oregon has been in the bit of a reform lately and they're considering restarting the project since they didn't like the approach it went with. One of the developers that contributed a bit back in the day is the admin of HellGround and he's considering making his core public or at least sharing it to the developers of Oregon (including me I guess). He says it's been highly upgraded to support thousands (which they do) it has multithreading and lots of fixes and PvE content done. So... this will be interesting. I'll post if anything else develops.
