Anyone here going to play Tera online?

Post by Xaru »

There's another closed beta next weekend. I bought the collector's edition yesterday, wondering if anyone else has pre-ordered it or plans to play it?

It looks a lot like Aion, and I think Guild Wars 2 will be better especially since it doesn't have a monthly subscription. But the PvP on Tera looks fun, you can dodge ranged/spell attacks and you have to aim to hit people.

Believe it or not monthly subscriptions is what keeps games good. It allows the companies to pay their devs, continue content development and provide quality customer service. Without it, servers become gold/account selling spam, cheating, hacking, etc, etc. Sadly bad MMOs that do have monthly subscriptions that are not GOOD die, like Aion and such because there's not enough want to pay for that game.

^ This. Guild Wars 1 seemed fine when it was free to play. It just got overshadowed by WoW. GW2 looks really good, but I've already bought the collector's edition for TERA, heh.

Of course, but have you ever seen a free-to-play MMO ever? When anyone and everyone can remake accounts? Yeah it's like that. At least on WoW you have to have a real account to talk in channels or whisper. The only spamming you see is from compromised accounts and Blizzard has really, really good spam filtering already.

I don't think Guild Wars is comparable to most of the F2P games which have cash shops though. I think GW2 will be a really good game, and one with lasting appeal. I think TERA will be like Aion and have good initial success but then it'll wane after a year, I still think the combat system will keep it being popular though. I like how the environment is so sunny and bright, in a typical Asian high-fantasy setting.

By the way, the Elin race look like little kids, and some of the outfits seem like they'd attract some unsavoury types:

Even in PvE you have to dodge melee and spell attacks. Even tanks have to dodge stuff. You can also play it with a controller if you want, so I'm looking forward to farming in bed with my PS2 controller that I attached a USB adaptor to.

This isn't related at all but I just found an orange with a little babby orange inside it.
