Attention OS X Users (Important information regarding Lion!)

Post by Henhouse »

Attention Mac OS X users, if you are intending on upgrading to Mac OS X: LIon and have intentions to play 2.4.3 -- DO NOT UPGRADE. This new version of Mac OS X drops Rosetta support (framework which allows PowerPC programs to run). WoW was not fully Intel supported on Macs until 3.x, therefore 2.4.3 will NOT be able to run on Lion.

Unless a hack-install for Rosetta comes out, stay on Snow Leopard.

There's not any that I've been able to find yet. I was reading on another server's forums about the issue and no one have found a solution yet either. See, Apple updates the architecture sometimes and back in 2006 when they went to Intel powered processors their PowerPC binaries changed. That's why they had Universal apps for a long time. 1.12 and 2.4.3 were Universal apps that *should* run fine. Now they've dropped PowerPC fully and Cataclysm only supports Intel computers too.

But, because 2.4.3 is still Universal it SHOULD run. Why it doesn't... I have no idea. There must be some glitch in it because 1.12 runs perfectly fine on Lion. I hope to maybe one day figure something out but currently I have nothing. Unfortunately I run natively on OS X so it looks like I've forever stuck on Snow Leopard.

Only suggestion I have for you is to either dual boot Snow Leopard or Windows to play. :\

Maybe an idea to run WoW on os-x higher than10.6.x

(i can’t test it, because i do not own an Intel-Mac anymore):

Install X11 or XQuartz
Install Winebottler
Copy over a fully installed Windows version of WoW tbc

Try to run it in Wine-environment…

(Maybe Parallels-Desktop should do fine, also?!)

Yes, it´s not 100% native, but maybe you could upgrade from 10.6. and still run WoW with no need for a Bootcamp install.

Like I said: I did not test it – just an idea/concept of how it maybe works…

I have done this, but there is many FPS and graphics related issues. Not game-breaking, but annoyances that just make it a bit bothersome in my opinion.

I have OS X Version 10.9.2, does this mean I can not play? Every time I try to open WoW it crashes before I can see the log in page.

Correct. :( You'll have to run it through an emulator like Crossover.
