The casual user isn't a video/photo editor though, and windows has options for video/photo editing just like the mac. Only you have to pirate it. :PHenhouse wrote:There's a reason why over 80% of commercials are made on Macs. Almost all professional movies, sound recording, movies, video, etc, etc. you name it is done on Mac computers. They simply are made for these purposes and are used that way.
I didn't know that, cool. But I'm not a developer so that doesn't really matter to me. :PHenhouse wrote:Many programmers use Mac over Windows nowadays too. The entire Google HQ is no longer permitted to use Windows for day-to-day use personally, only for development purposes. So they're all running on Mac/Linux these days.
Yup, exactly. I just think for a casual user PCs are a much better option. They're cheaper, can be upgraded easily and have more options for gaming.Henhouse wrote:The thing is, they're different depending on what you are wanting to use them for, which makes the sake of arguing very pointless. There is a reason why I have BOTH systems.
If you paid $1000 for a PC you'd be paying for quality too. As you could have completely custom brand new components that could be easily changed a few years down the line. I mean if you bought an I7 today you could keep upgrading your video card for years if you overclocked the CPU.Henhouse wrote:While Deems will always argue that they're expensive as a main reason, and that's true they indeed are. You're paying for quality,
I don't see why Apple's marketing should impress a consumer. :PHenhouse wrote: a brand name and a demand. Apple obviously can sell the computers no problem at that price, so why lower it -- it's called marketing. .
Alienware is a piece of shit though. If you built your own PC you could save half on what you have to pay for a mac and still have better specs.Henhouse wrote:When you compare their prices to other brand names like Alienware you'll see those too, are indeed very expensive. Reasons you would buy an Alienware are probably not the same reasons you would buy a MacBook Pro of course. I am happen to report my MacBook Pro has two graphics cards and can easily run Cataclysm on max settings at an easy 60 (set cap) fps. So really it's not like they're bad -- they have great hardware too.
God, you sound like an Apple marketing executive. :PHenhouse wrote:Apple is a brand, a trend, something you're supposed to want from them. Whether that be an iPad, iPhone, Mac computer, etc. What they're doing is obviously extremely successful that almost no other company is able to do. Look at their retail stores; from the moment they open the rarely have less than 40 people in them at a time. The two nearest to my home usually have waiting lines to GET IN. They've revolutionized the world, whether you want to accept that or not, or want to try framing Steve Jobs as an "asshole" he was also one of the world's best creative minds, innovators, market-changer and businessmen. The mobile phone world is changed due to Apple. The music world is now changed due to Apple. Hell, even Apple was the one that invested the concept of the mouse.
I hope we can at least agree that both HP and Dell are shit.Henhouse wrote:So argue both ways or not, they are different and it's impossible to argue the two. A more logical argument would be HP vs Dell. Because they are similar, whereas Apple, let alone Mac OS X are entirely different.

Re: Round 1 !
You're argument that PCs are better for the casual user contradicts itself when you state that customizing is a major component that macs don't have. I would consider myself a casual user up until the point that I built my last computer. The casual computer user doesn't know how to upgrade components or what to upgrade to, not to mention buying a pre-made computer and then trying to upgrade parts of it is 10x harder than building your own from the get go.
PC gives the opportunity of so much more power, graphics, potential, and gaming than a mac, but to a casual user that potential is never realized. They don't know what they are doing and the minute the computer starts getting slower there are only 2 thoughts in their head: I have a virus or I need a new computer. Macs have simply taken away a good bit of that potential that was never realized and replaced it with a more reliable, longer lasting computer. Sure it might not run the best games around and after a while you wont have the option to replace some parts to extend its expiration date but the casual user never did that to begin with anyway.
That's what apple means to me: we do this shit so you don't have to. Do I have to worry as much about virus protection? No. Do I have to worry about replacing parts in a few years? No. If I need to dual boot windows for (insert reason here) will it be a hard and long process searching through forum topic after forum topic? No. Apple's trademark is that they make great computers with great support. PC gives you a pile of stuff and says take care of it yourself. Mac tucks you in at night and says don't worry pal, I got your back. Even if at the end of the day the PC user will have a better machine, the mac user doesn't care because he's entirely content with what he has and he didn't have to bust his butt to get it.
The last difference is the price and yes Macs are more expensive and that's because they are the best at what they do: making a machine that doesn't need all the upkeep. Nobody else feeds off people's laziness and computer illiteracy as much as Mac does, which is why they can get away with the increased prices. That's why the average casual user would pick a mac.. imo.

You're right Riski. I mean PC's have more options since for the casual user they're cheap and good for gaming and for the hardcore users you can upgrade/customize them.
I don't know about you guys but the new MacBook Pro looks alright. Apparently it can run WoW. >_>

It can. Easily. I run Cataclysm on full graphics with 60fps. Mine has two graphics cards it can switch between. Some in many ways it's great for gaming.
My friends and I are going to be recording "Let's Play"s about Amnesia and Penumbra. I can record the game in 1080p, HD webcamera footage of us all playing it (our reactions), and upload it without any graphics problems. :)

Well we already played through all of Amensia. We had our hilarious moments. We all screamed when the Iron Maiden opened up. But we LOLLLL'ed when I assulted a monster with a pig and he simply walked away. Then I commented, "he must have been Jewish." and we all LOL faced again.Xaru wrote: I was just kidding, it has sick specs. :P

LoL is fun, Riski got me into it recently. Remember to roll North American servers because that's where Decei, myself and Riski all play. :)
