But Apple is a company :/ Mac OS X is an operating system.


For day-to-day use and management of server I will always use Mac OS X. It's an amazing operating system for some who get used to it, and enjoy it. For others it's just simply not for them. You never have to worry about viruses or security problems so you can literally rush-charge through terrible sites on the internet without a care in the world. It's very versatile with many programs running and backed by it's UNIX kernal won't freeze up or lock the entire system (Not Responding) is what it's known as on Windows.

There's a reason why over 80% of commercials are made on Macs. Almost all professional movies, sound recording, movies, video, etc, etc. you name it is done on Mac computers. They simply are made for these purposes and are used that way.

Many programmers use Mac over Windows nowadays too. The entire Google HQ is no longer permitted to use Windows for day-to-day use personally, only for development purposes. So they're all running on Mac/Linux these days. The whole GitHub team uses Mac to develop with and even made a quite amazing client for GitHub that's only on Mac! My great friend, Toby who has programmed amazing forum software called esoTalk does all of his development on Mac. He claims it's a system that simply "works, and you get what you pay for." Indeed countless others I'm sure.



The thing is, they're different depending on what you are wanting to use them for, which makes the sake of arguing very pointless. There is a reason why I have BOTH systems. I have different purposes and needs for both. I use Mac OS X daily for easibility(not a word) and management on Smolderforge (even though I do code development to compile in Windows of course) and many average users are switching to Mac OS X these days. Apple is the only company that sells Mac computers, yet they have almost taken 1/4 of the entire market. They are the #1 college selling laptops. Here at my university 98% of the people all have MacBooks -- it's just a standard almost. They're smaller, faster, will last you all 4 years and more because they won't slow down and have problems over and over, etc. Overall a good long-term investment.

I use my Windows PC for games. After all, that's the benefit of those -- you can customize them and easily switch out their parts when you need to.


While Deems will always argue that they're expensive as a main reason, and that's true they indeed are. You're paying for quality, a brand name and a demand. Apple obviously can sell the computers no problem at that price, so why lower it -- it's called marketing. Apple's hardware is not 100 pieces screwed into one frame, the computer is usually 1 unibody (MacBook Pros) -- it's quite amazing. When you compare their prices to other brand names like Alienware you'll see those too, are indeed very expensive. Reasons you would buy an Alienware are probably not the same reasons you would buy a MacBook Pro of course. I am happen to report my MacBook Pro has two graphics cards and can easily run Cataclysm on max settings at an easy 60 (set cap) fps. So really it's not like they're bad -- they have great hardware too.

Apple is a brand, a trend, something you're supposed to want from them. Whether that be an iPad, iPhone, Mac computer, etc. What they're doing is obviously extremely successful that almost no other company is able to do. Look at their retail stores; from the moment they open the rarely have less than 40 people in them at a time. The two nearest to my home usually have waiting lines to GET IN. They've revolutionized the world, whether you want to accept that or not, or want to try framing Steve Jobs as an "asshole" he was also one of the world's best creative minds, innovators, market-changer and businessmen. The mobile phone world is changed due to Apple. The music world is now changed due to Apple. Hell, even Apple was the one that invested the concept of the mouse.

So argue both ways or not, they are different and it's impossible to argue the two. A more logical argument would be HP vs Dell. Because they are similar, whereas Apple, let alone Mac OS X are entirely different. Windows is software, Macs are hardware AND software put together to create a trouble-free, amazing experience.
