Buying Blizzard's server blade

Post by Henhouse »

Not sure if many of you read up on WoW's website but last year at BlizzCon they announced they were going to auction off old server blades (the servers that ran Vanilla - early Wrath) for charity. Well they said "select" servers however they decided to go ahead and auction them all off.

Smolderthorn is the server I played on years ago. It was the server that made me fall in love with WoW, gave me inspiration for the name Smolderforge, and was a home for me for many years. Having the thought of being able to own the hardware that my character ran through, leveled up and made friends within the game for several years excites me in a way. With that said, I will be trying to buy on of the Smolderthorn servers that goes up for auction, and hopefully win.

All the proceedings go to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital too and luckily not into Blizzard's pocket.

I read about this a while back. Do you have any idea where the bidding will start? Because I'm betting there are some tight nerds out there who would like to add these to their collections.

Anyway, best of luck with getting your hands on it. =)

I'd hate to think how much they will actually sell for.

Ah i seen this on blizzard's site. I wanted to buy my old server from vanilla, but i just don't have the money to spare. it is for a good cause though. I heard that people buying in the EU are getting bad prices because its like $300 shipping or something like that. For US its not bad at all though.

Whatever a server is assigned to do. It's a self-contained server. So one of each 4 servers ran and processed countless thousands of players through one of the 4 continents in WoW for years. Including myself for a while..

Keep it. It's a collector's item. Maybe it's still functional, who knows.

I doubt they are still functional, But it is a nice collector's item. It comes with that nice glass( or plastic not sure) casing on it that says world of warcraft and i believe it also has the server that it was used for written on there also.
