Moving Pre-BC Server

Post by Henhouse »

Ever since the Pre-BC server opened we've been experiencing a lot of problems with both server's stability, TBC and Pre-BC. This was one of my many concerns when reopening Pre-BC that we'd encounter problems like this. When Pre-BC first opened on MaNGOS many months ago they both were constantly crashing each other. Though, I'm not sure if this is entirely the case this time but I believe the frequent crashes are related.

Since both servers are running the same program, sharing the same map files, and communicating to the same database I have reason to believe there's some problems occurring that way. I feel I should try moving the Pre-BC database and server over to our Wrath server, which is only running TrinityCore communicating on different threads and using completely different map systems, etc. Also TrinityCore's 3.3.5a core right now is VERY stable so I feel running Pre-BC will hardly affect this.

The only thing we'll experience is a little downtime (probably ~1hour) when I perform the move, and the only other main difference will be that the server will move from the Berlin datacenter back to the Amsterdam one. As for when I move it, I'm not entirely sure yet.

THE SERVER MOVE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME CLIENT VERSION (2.4.3). Pre-BC will still run 2.4.3 -- it will be sharing the same SERVER in a datacenter that our Wrath server runs on. They are separate.

Do it if it increases stability, I've had more than 8 crashes in the past few hours on both realms, Idk if that's just me though lawl.

I don't see a problem with moving it though, but the one hour of downtime, will it affect but TBC and pre-tbc?
