[Felguard] weapon damage bugged
[Felguard] weapon damage bugged
Currently every Warlock pet on smolderforge is bugged, possibly an error borne out of bad scripting. Let me explicate how warlock pets used to function on retail. Typically, each of the warlock pets would have a different base weapon damage value.
The important point here is that there was a range. On smolderforge all the pets have the same weapon damage values. (99-133) This is either a massive oversight on the part of the developers, or a bug in the code.
I have found the original felguard values, sourced from wowiki and a number of forum posts.
http://www.wowwiki.com/Felguard_%28warl ... _note-FG-0
Here are the stats on retail at level 70...
62 133 36 279 124 102 246 240-329 6276
Thats 240-329 weapon damage using a naked warlock with the unholy power talents. On smolderforge a naked warlock with the same talents is (99-133 X 1.2 (20%).
So is their really a disparity in dps between smolderforge and retail? The answer is yes and the evidence is overwhelming. Take these forum posts i dug up from TBC.

To conclude, felguard weapon damage is too low and needs to be adjusted to the aforementioned levels by about 50-70percent give or take. Im sure some mathmatician could find the true values. Would appreciate it if you guys gave this a look, as this is holding back one of the Warlock specs.
Thank you.

Bump. Yup Im still here. Bumpadee dump de dump bump.
Re: [Felguard] weapon damage bugged
First off, you linked me the stats from level 62, not 70. Additionally, the creature's stats are already set to the level 70 versions (close to at least) you've shown me from this page.

Re: [Felguard] weapon damage bugged
On your first point. I did link stats from level 70, you are analyzing that information wrong. At the start of TBC the weapon damage of Felguards was modified at level 62 onwards, to level 70. It remained that way until weapon damage was modified again for the content patch of wotlk to take into account the increased spell power from gear. (thats the information you referd to on wowiki)Henhouse wrote:First off, you linked me the stats from level 62, not 70. Then a few months into wotlk, they realised the felguard was underperforming so they buffed it again in one of the major patches. Thats the information entitled 'level 80.' Im sure i can dig up those patch notes from somewhere to prove my point.
Also what you linked was a screenshot of the felguards stat values, like strength and stamina. There is no issue with those values, they are identical to the values, as far as i can tell on TBC. But those values aren't important for warlock pets. Warlock pet damage is 90percent derived from 'weapon damage' which is a stat not linked in your image, and 'spell power' scaling, which also seems to be fine on smolderforge.
If you need further convincing go summon all the warlock pets on smolderforge. The weapon damage value of all pets is 99-130 something, provided you are wearing no gear and therefore recieve no spellpower scaling. This should not be the case. All the pets had different weapon damage values on retail, and in the case of the felguard, it had, as I showed :
62 133 36 279 124 102 246 240-329 6276.
See the 240-329, thats what the felguards weapon damage is supposed to be on a naked warlock. On smolderforge its 99-134. Yet those arent the stats you linked on your screenshot. You linked strength, stamina etc, which aren't to be confused with pets base weapon damage.
This is why the Felguard hits so low on smolderforge. It should be doing about 50percent more damage, like it was on retail.

Re: [Felguard] weapon damage bugged
I tried Demonology out, and the damage Felguard does is just poor, and I'm an orc... Hitted for 300 on a dummy at best.

Re: [Felguard] weapon damage bugged
I was researching this a little today and from what I can gather the wow emu scene has never really got accurate bliz-like values of base pet attack values. For whatever reason they decided to use a generic level based formula to set the base damage value for all pets in the game.
Now It seems very strange that the warlock 41pt pet would do the same base damage as the starting pets (voidwalker). Wowiki seems to reinforce my suspision that the pets should indeed do different damage.
I have experimented with this and have modified the code on my test server core to change the felguards base damage by about 215%. On a fully geared warlock this will bring the felguards damage from ~250dps to about 380dps on a target dummy or 0 armour target.

Re: [Felguard] weapon damage bugged
I did some calculations and I have to say that Exsurgo, you got damn close. My results suggest that to match Felguard's melee damage we have here to retail TBC there should be a 205% boost to the damage.
I ran these tests as an orc (racial passive; Command: Increases damage done by pets by 5%), with 5/5 Unholy Power (20% more dmg) and with 5/5 Master Demonologist (5% more dmg), without any equipment or buffs.
I excluded Demonic Knowledge from these test because different races have different amount of base stats, which would lead to a diverse spell damage boosts. Thus, zero(0) spell damage.
TBC retail damage: 240 - 329
Average dmg: 285
My damage: 123 - 168
Damage for anyone who isn't an orc: 117 - 160
Average damage: 139
(Min dmg: 123x0.95 = 117
Max dmg: 168x0.95 = 160)
Using average values to calculate how much the damage should be boosted we will use a simple formula:
x/y
where "x" represents retail damage, and "y" represents damage here.
285/139 = 2.05
205%.
