Shadowburn
Shadowburn
Hey all,
I'm currently investigating Shadowburn and its dmg formula, and I need more information. So please post your average non-crit Shadowburn dmg below and list your spellpower and any talents you had on that would change the result.
For example:
Damage - 1500~1600
SP: 1500
Buffs: Touch of Shadow (+15% shadow dmg)
Thanks. ~

Re: Shadowburn
The spell power coeff might be bugged.
Zitch has 100 less SP and no lol-dem-sac buff and hits about the same. So that was my main concern.

Re: Shadowburn
The spellpower won't make much of a difference, since burn scales with 42.86% of it. So with 100 more spellpower, it'll hit for 40-45 more dmg.
The lol-dem-sac doesn't have anything to do with the formula. However, this is where the majority of the difference would be, which from the top of my head would be about 220-250 damage from the numbers you posted (excl Touch of Shadow since Zitch doesn't have it.)
So if there's a problem anywhere, it's with either Touch of Shadow, or that Touch of Shadow doesn't apply to Shadow Burn.
I guess you've done the math, and some testing yourself. Have you tried to cast SB without Touch of Shadow? And if so, was there much of a difference?
And what other tests have you done, and what results have they yielded?

Re: Shadowburn
Without dem-sac it hits around high 1300's (138x). And as far as I know, no destro talents increase non-crit Shadowburn damage.
Curiously enough, without fel armor (+130 SP) the damage was around 1280. Mathematically speaking, the dmg should only be 52~ lower (40% spell power coeff).

Re: Shadowburn
(1500 - 130) * 0.4286 + 597 = 1184
(1500 - 130) * 0.4286 + 665 = 1252
Shadowburn damage would be around 1184-1252 with your spellpower, minus Touch of Shadow, minus Fel armor. That is if the Shadowburn damage numbers I found are correct, and the spell coeff from Warlocks Den is correct.
With fel armor it should look something like this.
1500 * 0.4286 + 597 = 1240
1500 * 0.4286 + 665 = 1308
And with Touch of Shadow it would then be...
1240 * 1.15 = 1426
1308 * 1.15 = 1504
Now, my math could be off for all I know, since I usually don't give a damn about things like this, so the formula might be calculated differently by Blizzard (or the core, or whatever). But as you see the numbers aren't that far off, only a slight bit behind (50-100) the numbers you're reporting. I could crunch some more math or look around for a correct formula for spellpower coeff, but I won't. I'll leave that to you. What I'm gonna do is have a big cup of coffee.

Re: Shadowburn
Well, the math is correct, but from an actual example in-game, another warlock with less SP and no 15% shadow dmg buff did the exact same non-crit damage. So from this evidence, there must be something other than spellpower that influences Shadowburn's damage. And as far as I can tell, no destruction talents benefit non-crit Shadowburn damage.
