Anyone play Path of Exile?
Anyone play Path of Exile?
Rocking an EB lightning summoner, ~65+ atm, end of A2. Playing default league atm, getting a feel for end-game and the viability of the spec. Going hardcore after that.
Current spec
End-game spec
Probably gonna play the same spec on hc. Has great group support with auras, shock and minions for distraction.
No idea what to roll for an alt so far. Might go for a conduit wander, a frost-crit witch or a CI/GR claw shadow.
Edit: Updated the spec

Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
Yeah, I am. Haven't played to a high level, but it's definitely better prepared than Diablo 3. Closed beta was absolutely fantastic, the best game purchase I have made other than the $5 S4 on here. The farming is enjoyable, and always simple enough for you to progress without having to feel like you're in school again. I feel like this game is going to be huge. I remember getting the flame staff that's level 13-16 (I forgot what level it is) that's orange coloured and the equivalent of a Legendary, I rerolled a pyro character called Pyrowitch, as soon as I got that staff that had the most perfect stats possible I was absolutely obliterating everything. It's like, even at the low levels you can have so much fun! Great game. And it's free!
As the best known hybrid class user on this server, and somebody who played Shockadin even after holy gear had SP added to it to 2200+ rating in 2v2 (basically that means that Shockadins were over the hill and were no longer feared in PvP), I am definitely a hardcore fan of being able to customize your character however you want. And this game is the ultimate example of that. You can spec into whatever the fuck you want to, you can roll a Witch and turn yourself into a Warrior, you can do crazy combinations that give you one incredibly powerful ability, or you can focus entirely on defence and become immortal. So much fun! I can't wait until I find the energy to go end-game there. No idea what that will be like! My original class was a Templar who focused on tanking & aoe spell using, much like my Shockadin. :3

Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
I did play it for a day or so before I got back into retail and completely stopped playing other games. Planned to run minion spam on my templar but I wasn't exactly sure how well that would boil over, how well does your spec work in late game?

Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
Atm I basically rip through everything, but I can't say how it is late game, since I'm not really there yet. Can't tell how viable a spec is until you reach maps. But it looks promising. Progression wise, where I am now, I don't have much problems. I do however play with friends quite a lot, but so far everyone loves having me around, since I make the party extremely efficient with auras and shock, and my minions adds huge survivability to everyone. I've sorted some decent gear lately though, started to invest in stat-balance ~lvl40 or so, and trade even more now.
It's about more than the spec though. Gear plays a huge difference later on, when you get to merciless. If you don't balance your gear setup, you'll get one-shotted quite a lot. And even on default league dying sucks, since you lose 15% of your xp.
But I believe the spec is hc viable, and I'm gonna run the same spec once we start playing for real. If you decide to go with a summoner, I'd really go with a witch, since the starting point in the tree is way better than any other class. Would either roll a shock build, or a fire one.

It's theory-crafting porn. :p

Porn eh... Loading the talent tree alone burned my pc, bluescreened my head, raped my life from all holes and made me cry quietly.
Is the amount of active skills just as huge?

No I'm kidding. I played D2:LoD for like 2 years. My fave character was my smite pally. Good times. Is there a class like that? With auras and the ability to smash monsters face in? Seriously, smite pallies were awesome in duels too.
Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
No, but I would say that the active skills + support, to modify them adds up to quite a few.Amgseret wrote:Is the amount of active skills just as huge?
Depends on how you build your character. Thing with classes in poe is that the only difference between them is what base-stats they start out with, where they start in the passive talent tree, and what quest rewards they get throughout the game.Imperium wrote:No I'm kidding. When it comes to active skills, every class can use every skill, just that some are more proficient than others, since the requirement to use them are base stats (str, dex and int). So auras are basically used by everyone in the game, but you can't really just stack as many as you want. They restrict that by having auras reserve a bit of your mana pool. So the only way to really stack up a good amount of them is to get Eldritch Battery, the keystone I have to the upper-right of where I started in the tree.
As for a smite paladin, I would probably roll with a templar. They have good access to both survivability talents, and spellcasting talents, and EB isn't all that hard for them to get.
Edit:
Shield Charge
Charges at an enemy, bashing it with the character's shield while striking with a melee weapon. This knocks it back and stuns it. Enemies in the way are pushed to the side. This attack cannot miss. Damage and stun are proportional to distance travelled.

Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
Sounds too good to be true, because D2 was the king of RPGs if you ask me. And it was incredibly fun and re-playable.
PoE sounds really really tempting. Might have a go. Any beginner's tips to share?

Re: Anyone play Path of Exile?
Hp is really important in the beginning of the game, especially for a melee character. If you decide to go with a templar, you have some really solid hp nodes in the beginning of your tree (except the regen node, since with a small hp pool you won't really regen anything.) Getting a leather belt early also helps you out, either getting a drop or buying it from a merchant. Investing in some mana rings and a neck will also make a huge difference in the beginning. And for the very first talent point, get a mana regen talent if you have access to one.
Obviously survivability plays a big role throughout the game as well. It doesn't only help you survive, but helps you keep on the offensive, which in turn makes you more effective. You don't really need every damage node you go past, so try to keep survivability and utility nodes in mind.
Other than that, get a concept of the build you want to play. Check over the different abilities on the poe site, and try to tailor the passive talents to best suit the concept you're going for. The forums and YouTube are also great sources of information about game mechanics and different builds.
Just expect that the first couple of characters you make will suck, and you'll most likely have to reroll a couple of times (unless you follow a guide.)
Edit: And btw, don't expect your character to ever look badass. You'll look like shit throughout the whole game.
