Shiv delay
Shiv delay
Shiv has a delay from 1 up to 5 seconds in arena. You get a message "ability is not ready yet" when you try to shiv which causes the delay. I would take a look at other melee abilities such as hunter's wing clip which has the same issue.

Re: Shiv delay
It's due to the fixed gcd when swapping weapons.

The macro would use a GCD so it's not exactly a no brainer to use it for something like that. You can't switch to another OH and shiv immediately. Whenever I need to shiv cripple, I usually have about a 1 second window of opportunity (druid). I do use a weaponswap for mind-numbing on warlocks and paladins though, but that's because I'm not constantly worried about them breaking my snares or running away.
You'll have to hit that button 2-3 times to get the shiv to go off. It's not very easy to get good feedback on it.

Isnt this because switching your offhand creates a 1 sec GCD..? Weapon changing using GCD has been around for awhile..at least a year before TBC.

Re: Shiv delay
I've never played 2.4.3 server that had weapon GCDs working like this. Not even AT ever had em like this. Is this for real....?

Re: Shiv delay
Yes, no server has this. Maybe HG has this, shiving like this was NEVER possible on retail. You can also check some Neilyo videos where you can clearly see that he is getting a GCD when swaping weapons.

Then why in, for example, Chrille movies he was able to swap heal mace+offhand simultaneously with regrowth cast? Just look here (6:30 after cyclone cast)Itslovelol wrote:Yes, no server has this. Actually even if it wasn't possible on retail (although I'm almost sure it was) its not that critical to make 60-70% of ferals\sps\enhs\etc change their macroses, right? :/
Re: Shiv delay
I can't remember exactly how it worked on retail 2.4.3, but that Fatcow video is from S3 which means things may have changed between that patch and what we play on.

I guess it worked like this (hope it will be understandable):Deems wrote:I can't remember exactly how it worked on retail 2.4.3, but that Fatcow video is from S3 which means things may have changed between that patch and what we play on.
If you simply swap weapon in combat - you will have 1.5 sec gcd;
If you use macro like /equip Mace /cast Spell - you will cast spell with new weapon equipped, but probably you can do that only with "casting" abilities, so maybe thats why it doesnt work for Shiv. Another thing is that such macro should be pressed only if u really can cast that spell, for example if you are moving at the moment of cast or having gcd atm from some other action - you will obviously have another 1.5 sec gcd before cast actually begin.
It worked same on smolderforge, not counting that u could use aforementioned macros even for abilities like Shiv. But as i said, i see nothing critical and gamebreaking in this, all addicted to that gcd system and that fix wont solve any problem, it'll just create unconvinience for players who use those macros.
Moreover, i know that Fatcow 6 movie refers to S3, but there was nothing told in patch notes about this problem, so why shouldnt we trust this video?
P.S: i appreciate that new dev started working on server from the first days of joining the team, but such fixex requires disscussion and investigation, its not good idea to rush them so fast

Re: Shiv delay
No no. you're wrong. It was possible on retail because until patch 2.4.3 you were able to switch weapons while casting. This got removed in patch 2.4.3 and therefore you could no longer switch weapons while casting (or macros like /cast and /equip)
Equipping an item will now cancel any spell cast currently in progress.
This is why most of the people don't remember it correctly, this research was already done. Nothing has been or will be rushed.

Back in 2.4 (?) Blizz decided that it's not cool for hybrids to use such macros since a weapon can make a huge difference. Since then swapping weapons in combat activates the gcd.
