EDIT: We actually did the test because i got pissed off after being trapped sixth time in a row from over 5 yards in arena. Hunter even said that "no bugs with the traps" after the game.

just to let u know...that kind of things happend in retail aswell...sooo im not quite sure its bugged....only way it can be bugged it that it does not trigger as soon as someone steps on it...it will take like 3 sec before u get traped

There's a two or three yard range per trap - you don't have to run directly over it, per se.
