[Guide] Sunwell Daily Quests

Post by Akeno »

Introduction

Image

The Shattered Sun Offensive is a coalition of Aldor and Scryer working to reclaim the Isle of Quel'Danas from Kael'thas. They offer daily quests that slowly unlock the content on the isle and open up further daily quests as well as services to players such as repair NPCs, Inn NPCs and the new Badge Loot vendor.

Each Phase offers new quests and rewards. The older quests remain available, but under different names. Not all quests listed contribute towards unlocking the next phase, but all grant Shattered Sun Offensive faction.

Table of Contents
  • The Sanctum Wards
  • Erratic Behavior
  • The Missing Magistrix (not a daily, but unlocks one)
  • Blood for Blood
  • Blast the Gateway
  • Gaining the Advantage
  • Sunfury Attack Plans
  • The Multiphase Survey
  • Distraction at Dead Scar (bombing run daily)
  • Intercepting the Mana Cells
  • Know Your Ley Lines
  • Intercepting the Reinforcements
  • Making Ready
  • Open for Business
  • Discovering Your Roots
  • Disrupt the Greengill Coast
  • A Charitable Donation
  • A Magnanimous Benefactor
1. The Sanctum Wards

The quest itself is pretty simple, and goes in two parts.
Hunt down Wretched Devourers and Wretched Fiends, and slaughter them for their Mana Remnants. You'll need four Remanants, and the drop rate felt like it was around 50%. The mobs are only level 68, and don't pose much of a problem; they do a puny drain life/mana and a very short silence. They can be found starting in the Shattered Sun Staging Area and spreading in an arc down near the western shoreline.
Once you have your four Mana Remnants, come back up near the Staging Area to a Crystal Ward (pictured, at 49,35) and right-click the stack of Mana Remnants in your inventory.

2. Erratic Behavior

The Erratic Sentries are found in the same place as the mobs for The Sanctum Wards: an arc starting at the Staging Area and proceeding broadly southwards along the western shoreline. They're non-agressive (yellow) mechanicals (pictured), and although they're level 70, it's still uncommonly easy to kill them. Sometimes they can be found reduced in health bandaging themselves up, and in general they move a bit oddly -- I guess that explains the "erratic" part.

After you kill and loot, target the corpse and right-click the Attuned Crystal Cores in your inventory; the Sentry will turn into a friendly one and stagger around briefly before disappearing. Note that you can't convert corpses that you haven't killed yourself.
Convert five corpses, and you're done.

3. The Missing Magistrix

"The Missing Magistrix" is picked up from the Shattered Sun Staging Area, and asks you to go look after an operative gone AWOL by means of a portal and a scroll. You do need a flying mount to get this quest, since if you didn't have one you won't be able to get back from where you're sent without burning your Hearthstone.

Finding this portal seems to be very difficult for people, so I'll provide as much information as possible.

  • The coordinates are 48,44
  • It's south and very slightly east from the Staging Area
  • It's subtly indicated on the map in the screenshot
  • It is a wall of green glow similar to the Dark Portal into the Outlands
Once you get to the portal, right-click the Captured Legion Scroll in your inventory to be teleported to the Throne of Kil'Jaeden, where Kazzak usually hangs out. Don't do this if you're not read to go to Outland, since there's no reverse teleport (at least, not yet). The portal is guarded by some non-elite demons, but you can avoid fighting most of them by going around behind. Once you do port through, you'll appear at Magistrix Seyla's feet, ready to turn in the quest and get to demon-slaying.

4. Blood for Blood

Now that you've completed "The Missing Magistrix" and teleported to the Throne of Kil'Jaeden in Hellfire Peninsula (or flown there if you've already done the teleport before, but completion of "The Missing Magistrix" is required for this quest), you're ready to do Blood for Blood and its companion quest, Blast the Gateway. Magistrix Seyla at the Throne assigns both quests. Blood for Blood goes like this:
  • Kill Doom Heralds, those big swordy demon things you see stomping around, and loot their blood. You need four, and it seems to be a 100% drop. The blood powers the Felblood Siphon that you'll use in the next step.
  • Find Felblood Initiates (pictured) casting wavy green things at the structures on the ground and cower at their eliteness. Now use the Felblood Siphon on them, and, just like the giants from Ferelas, they will weaken into non-elite pushover Emaciated Felbloods. Kill. Do this four times, and you're ready to return to the Magistrix.

Image

5. Blast the Gateway

  • Right-click the supplied Sizzling Embers to release a pet Living Flare, which follows you around. Contrary to what WoWWiki says, I find that it will not despawn if you use your flying mount, as long as you don't get too far away from it (so be careful on your epic mounts).
  • Find and kill the Incandescent Fel Sparks, which are fire elementals that wander the Throne area. They have a fireball, but like most of the mobs involved in the dailies, they're not hard to kill. Every a Fel Spark is killed with your Living Flare nearby, the Flare energizes. Note that you don't actually have to kill the Spark yourself; if you see some other people killing one, go help, and any flares in the vicinity will get energized.
  • Once your Flare accumulates enough energy (it takes about five- eight kills), it will become "unstable" and turn green. Take it over to the Legion Gateway, near Magistrix Seyla, and it'll release its fiery power. Done! Talk to the Magistrix.

6. Gaining the Advantage

You've dealt with automata and the Wretched on the Isle of Quel'Danas. You've slain demons and blown up the transporter at the Throne of Kil'Jaeden. Are there more Shattered Sun-related dailies left to do? You bet! There are three quests that are assigned in Shattrath, and here's one of them: Gaining the Advantage. Posts on the other two are coming shortly.

This quest is assigned by Emisarry Mordin who paths near the flight master. So it's a fairly easy quest to do. Go on back to Shattrath to turn it in.

Image

7. Sunfury Attack Plans

Here is another Shattered Sun daily that originates in Shattrath, from Lord Torvos who stands just north of the flight master (right by where you picked up "Gaining the Advantage"). The premise of "Sunfury Attack Plans" is that we know that the Sunfury elves up in Netherstorm have some attack plans, and we want them. We want one of them per character, every day. So get yourself to Netherstorm, find some Sunfury elves (any Sunfury elves), and kill them until one of them drops the attack plans. I usually go for the mobs near Manaforge B'naar simply for convenience.

Image

8. The Multiphase Survey

"The Multiphase Survey" is assigned by a doubtful Draenei named Harbinger Harnomen who can be found somewhat clockwise of the flight master in Shattrath, and it goes like this:
  • Go to the Spirit Fields in Nagrand, which are near that giant crystal Oshu'gun.
  • Put on the provided Multiphase Spectrographic Goggles.
  • Fly/ride around and look for Multiphase Disturbances (pictured), which are only visible when wearing the goggles. When you find one, get near it and right-click your goggles. The disturbance will disappear. Six of these "readings" and you're done; flutter on back to Shattrath

9. Distraction at the Dead Scar

You'll get the quest from Battlemage Arynna in the new sanctum building. She'll order you to kill 2 Pit Overlords, 3 Eredar Sorcerers, and 12 Wrath Enforcers, provide you with some Arcane Charges to drop on them, and send you to Ayren Cloudbreaker, who is located back by the docks where you first land when coming in by gryphon or bat.

From there, talk to him to get your Dragonhawk. The Dragonhawk will fly on a predetermined course. You'll first pass some of Kaelthas' archers and fly over the Naga and Murloc villages before you hit the Dead Scar. Once there, you'll need to be on your toes, especially if there's other people trying to kill the demons. You'll see the demons both on the ground and on the balconies and ramparts and bridges to the sides of the Dead Scar. The Wrath Enforcers often come in packs, and will generally die in one hit, but the Eredar Sorcerers and the Pit Overlords may take 2 hits, so you'll have to watch for them to show and quickly hit them before you fly back out of sight. Once you hit the end of the Scar, you'll get a brief glimpse of Brutallus fighting Madrigosa before you turn around and fly back over the scar, giving you one more chance to hit a few demons.

If you don't have your demons killed after the first run, you don't have to abandon the quest to try again. Instead, you can simply talk to Ayren to be sent on another pass. Luckily, after the first 2 or 3 tries, you should probably get the hang of it enough that you'll do it in one pass, assuming there's enough demons to go around. If nothing else, it's sort of nice not to have to dodge Kaliri or Fel Cannons.

Once you have your demons, return to Arynna.

10. Intercepting the Mana Cells

This Daily is located back in Shattrath, and given by a Draenei called Exarch Nasuun. He will be located in A'dal's chambers.

He'll send you to the Bash'ir Landing, on the northern plateau of Blade's Edge Mountains. This means that this daily will require you to have a flying mount. Once you receive the the quest, you can fly to Evergrove in Ruann Weald via flightmaster, then fly northwest from there on your mount to reach Bash'ir landing.

Once you're there, you'll want to kill any of the Ethereals until you receive the Bash'ir Phasing Device. The device is a very common drop, so you shouldn't have to kill more than one or two ethereals until you get one. This Device will put you, your pets, and your group members into a state not unlike the Mage spell Invisibility. You will not be able to see any non-phased players or mobs, nor will they be able to see you. This device, however, only works with Bash'ir landing, and any pets or groups members must stay within 100 yards of the person who used the device to get the benefit. As long as you stay within Bash'ir landing, the effect is permanent, although you can right-click it off.

Once you're phased, you will need to start looking for your quest objective, the Smuggled Mana Cells, which will appear on the ground as translucent hot pink boxes. The boxes will appear mostly near the machinery and other stacked boxes around the camp. They will be guarded by Phase Wyrms.

Once you have your 10 cells, you can drop the phased buff (Be careful for any ethereal aggro when you do. You can't see them while phased, but they'll be there when you come out of phased mode), mount up, and head back to Shattrath.

11. Know Your Ley Lines

This quest, while technically part of the 2nd phase of the Shattered Sun Offensive, does not appear immediately at the beginning of the Offensive. Instead, your server must complete the portal from Quel'danas to Shattrath by doing the Intercepting the Mana Cells quest.

Once you've unlocked the portal, a new NPC, Astromancer Darnarian, will be found inside the Sanctum building alongside the other daily quest givers.
  • The Bloodcrystal can be found due west of the Sanctum, at about location 42,35.
  • The Dawning Square portal is where you went for the Missing Magistrix and the Battle for the Sun's Reach Armory quests, almost immediately south of the Sanctum, at approximately location 48,44.
  • The Greengill Coast point will take a bit of riding, it's on the east coast of the Island, about halfway down the length of the island, at about location 61,62.
Once you've gotten your readings, return to the Astromancer.

The red dots on the map below give the approximate locations of each point.

12. Intercept the Reinforcements

This quest begins on the Isle of Quel'Danas from Vindicator Kaalan. You'll find him inside of the newly acquired Sun's Reach Armory. He sends you back over to Ayren Cloudbreaker for a Dragonhawk to use. If you remember, he's the same Blood Elf you spoke to for the quest Distraction at the Dead Scar.

Yes, this is another 'bombing run' quest, though slightly different. Your goal is to bomb the three Elven Destroyers just off of the coast and kill six Dawnblade Reservists .

When your dragonhawk takes off, it'll fly past each of the three boats(Dawnchaser, Blood Oath, and Sin'loren). You'll use the Flaming Oil provided to you by the NPCs, and throw it at the sails of the ships. Big, easy targets. You should have more than enough time to hit them all. Eventually your dragonhawk will land on the Sin'loren, where you begin slaughtering Blood Elves again. You can migrate over to the other two ships, but your ride back is on that particular boat. You chat with the dragonhawk when you're done because he was kind enough to wait for you, and you're taken back to the mainland.

13. Making Ready

Though the Sun's Reach Armory has been taken by the Shattered Sun Offensive, it is still not fully stocked and equipped. This is where you come in. Smith Hauthaa just outside of the Armory needs you to gather ore so she can make the Armory an Anvil.

Supplies are on the way, she says, but she doesn't want to waste time while she waits. She sends you to retrieve three pieces of Darkspine Iron Ore. You won't be mining for this ore, nothing as simple as that. You need to kill Darkspine Myrmidons along the eastern coast of Quel'Danas. They drop Darkspine Chest Keys which are then used to open chests along the naga encampments.

You'll likely need to do quite a bit of fighting to get your three pieces of ore, simply because there are so many mobs in the area. Once you work into a rhythm, it should only take as long as 'Arm the Wards!' does each day. While this quest may seem like one of the more time consuming Quel'Danas dailies, it is certainly worth the effort.

Image

14. Open for Business

Mar'nah needs five Bloodberry samples to show you what it is that she found. This quest is hit or miss. Sometimes you can get strong circuit around the island and get the five you need in under a minute, sometimes you go batty competing with others for bushes. If there's one quest on Quel'Danas you want to do in hours other than peak time, this is it.

My recommendation is that you shouldn't pick just this one quest up and set out to do it. When you have access to this quest, progression on the island is just about over, so no need to stop and do just this quest. If you're going to do it, do it with some of the other quests. The frustration of the bushes being camped melts away if you have other things to occupy your time. Since these grow on the entire island, you can be sure you'll end up with five before you're done.

15. Discovering Your Roots

The first daily quest of Phase 4 of the reclaiming of Quel'Danas is Discovering Your Roots. This quest begins at the newly unlocked Alchemy Vendor, Mar'nah. Of course, she has been unlocked, but not her stock. She claims to need a special reagents for that: Razorthorn Root.

After accepting this quest, fly out to Razorthorn Rise. This region is directly on the border between Terokkar Forest and Hellfire Peninsula, up in the mountains.

This is similar to the quest I Was A Lot Of Things... from Shadowmoon Valley, in that you need to use some local beasts to dig up your plants for you. Luckily, you don't need to rely on the intelligence of some dumb pig that gets massacred by all of the nearby monsters and turns on you if you accidentally hit an AOE. You get to control the Ravager you'll use to dig up your five required Razorthorn Roots.

How do you control them? Easy! Kill the nearby Flayers until one of them drops a Razorthorn Flayer Gland. Target a Ravager, and throw it at them. Ta-da! They are now your pet! Hunters, Warlocks, you'll need to dismiss your real pet before doing this or it won't work.

Now, clear around the dirt mounds you see laying about, and use the pet command called Expose Razorthorn Root. Loot the root like you would loot any similar item. Collect a total of five, and you win! Return to Quel'Danas

16. Disrupt the Greengill Coast

Disrupt the Greengill Coast opens up as soon as Phase 4 begins, and is given by Captain Valindria. She can be found on board the ship(known as Silvermoon's Pride) parked in the Harbor which you took in Phase 3.

I recommend doing it alongside Don't Stop Now... because you'll be killing the required mobs simultaneously.

It turns out the Darkspine Sirens are mind controlling the Murloc slaves you see throughout their camps, and they're doing it using some fancy orbs. An Orb of Murloc Control is what you want, and they drop off of the aforementioned Sirens. You want to throw and smash them into a camp of murlocs to release them from their control, and turn them on their Naga masters.

What these means is the Orbs work like grenades, targeted AOE spells, et cetera. When you right click the item, you'll get a targeting circle that the previous bombing quests have trained you to use, and throw them at a pack of murlocs. You need to free a total of 10 murlocs, so try to get as many of them in the ring as possible to cut down on Orb hunting.

Simple quest, and fantastic to do alongside Don't Stop Now... as I mentioned before.

17. A Charitable Donation

Acquired from Anchorite Ayuri just outside of Sun's Reach Sanctum, A Charitable Donation marks the final step on the reclaiming of Quel'Danas and the construction of the Shattered Sun Stronghold. It isn't a daily quest so much as it is a daily reputation vendor.

It's easy to look at the quest and get angry, because it's a fairly obvious money sink. Give Badges of Justice = get reputation. Keep in mind that it's completely optional, and the only thing it unlocks is a little flavor for the world. If you don't want to do it, don't do it, don't feel bad avoiding it. It won't hurt anybody.

18. A Magnanimous Benefactor

A Magnanimous Benefactor is a one time only quest found at the top of the Sun's Reach Harbor inn .

A Magnanimous Benefactor is a money black hole. The reward is very, very cool, though. For the low, low price(donation!) of 1,000 gold, you will be awarded a title, 'of the Shattered Sun.' For example, I would become Akeno of the Shattered Sun. Sweet.

Yes it needs an editing here and there since some things are way back from 2008 . This is a guide not just from the quests from Quel'Danas isle but for every quest which gives Sunwell reputation. I'll add links and other things and remove some of the text or edit it later once i have more free time. Haven't done these quests in a while so correct me if something is wrong ( a lot should be wrong) .
