Donate -> Store rename explanation
Donate -> Store rename explanation
Hi all,
If you may have noticed our site banners now mention a 'store' and say "Buy Now" or "Purchase" instead of the usual "donate". Let me explain why. So as you may or may not have heard Google Wallet for digital goods is shutting down March 2nd, which means we have to find a new payment provider. I have been looking and working with 2Checkout (which offers PayPal as well) to get their services integrated. They, however, have informed me that I must rename mentions of "donations" to legitimate wording referring to purchasing.
tl;dr: we have to change donate to purchase in order to get a new payment provider. Nothing else is changing.

How does this affect the whole private server thing?
I might be really wrong, but you aren't allowed to make a profit off of Blizzard's game, right?
That's why I thought it was always labeled donations and not purchases, so that way you kinda slide around the fact you're getting money for Blizzard's product.

If Blizzard wanted to go after anyone in the private server world, they could, and they did in 2008 when they shut down ScapeGaming (WoWScape), ToxicWoW, and 3 others. No message on the website, or difference in wording really makes any sort of difference. However, they haven't done such in 7 years so it is highly unlikely they ever would again. AT has been listing their website as a "store" for some time now.Imperium wrote:How does this affect the whole private server thing?

Re: Donate -> Store rename explanation
So you know when you're dealing with a good company when you go through what they tell you via email is a "final review", accept you, give you access to a merchant account, and then 5 hours later ban the account because they just realized your "business" violates their terms. You can really tell they put a lot of effort into their review processes.
So ignore this entire thread. Guess we'll have to look elsewhere again.

Isn't that bad, though? Can't Blizzard Corp come after you now for making money off their product? Before, the idea of donation was a safety net, of sorts. I would be apprehensive on switching the terms, honestly.Henhouse wrote:Hi all,
