Poll: Do You Twitter?

Twitter is a largely growing social networking site. But highly unique in it's own way. You "tweet" something in 140 characters and people can reply or "mention" by saying your username with a @namehere when they tweet.

Now, it's purpose was "What are you doing" and a person would tweet 24/7 what they are doing. This... hardly is used. Sure people will "follow" people on Twitter to see what they are doing, but in my case it's like an RSS feed. I'm following Google, Mozilla Firefox, Adium(Mac chat client), Apple News, WoWInsider and a few others.

Yeah, WoWInsider. I can get updates right when they are posted like the WoWInsider: Blizzard Trademarks CATACLYSM post. Now, it was boring to login and tweet but if you use programs like Firefox you can get an addon called TwitterFox which adds twitter to your lower bar and appears with new tweets from people you're following or you can post something without having to login.

The reason why this poll was made was because I'm wondering if I should do like a lot of other developers and people do -- make a Twitter account for Smolderforge. I can see it being helpful for quick and simple updates on what is going on at Smolderforge. Over 1/2 of the things we do are NOT posted and announced on the forums, simply why make a thread for what are we doing? Twitter serves this purpose.

So I want to ask how many people tweet, and would actually follow us if we created a Twitter account.

Sounds interesting, but wouldn't adding a Twitter account for Smolderforge just give you something else to do? It just seems too much to handle server update announcements, forum announcements, and now also twitter announcements. Maybe if someone would be able to take care of twitter for you that you trust but I'm not sure you should add more to what you already have to do.

Well I don't think it'll be very much work. In fact this post is basically as long as a twitter message can be.

For example here's two I can think of:

"PTR available for short testing today, coming online at 8PM till 9."
"Server maintenance tonight at 11PM EST."

Note: We're not running a PTR tonight, that was an example.

I think Kyle was a little confused, it's not something I would need help with. It's not like maintaining a profile, it's like speaking. Very simple, but keeps people updated like talking would.

Yeah, you could PM me the updates before-hand and I can twitter them.

What would be the point of that? I can simply twitter them myself right here or from my phone.

Well I guess that answered that >_>. I could integrate a little Twitter widget into the site somewhere to read the tweets, but no one could reply without a Twitter account.

I was tempted to make one tonight. Would it be good to have a widget that just displayed the Twitter updates, and you could go to like status.smolderforge.com to read them? Does that sound good?
