So, who plays diablo 3 US? Wouldn't mind running with *some* of you. It does seem to be turning out to be more fun than sitting in a desert for hours on end, waiting for horde to swap back to alliance (or visa versa.)

Played D3 a good while ago. But since they started nerfing the game, I'd say that it's exactly as dull as sitting around waiting in a desert. And I don't even want to imagine sc.

Try RoS. the BEST THING they ever did was kill AH. So much content was added... it's actually decent now with the loot system. Though Crusader (ret/prot pally) is boring as SHIT.

It has content, but no difficulty, and a very slim and monotone progression, which is one of its main problems. It doesn't require much to get to a point in the game where you've covered all the fronts needed for a complete build. After that, your build is pretty much done. And since character customization isn't a very strong point in the game, the quality of end-game material falls rather short.
D3 can be fun, but it's not lasting. They're introducing ladders, but unless you're playing on a very casual level, I doubt they'll really make an impact with the current end-game content.
I haven't kept up-to-date with the rest of the coming changes, apart from the mentioned ladders, and the tiered rifts. But from what I've seen ever since the game was released, I can't say I'm expecting anything that will make me pick this game up again.

Truth be told, there are some days (like last week) where I'm glad I was softcore. here comes a zerg... lag. lag... LAG... dead.
Can't tell you how many people I've spoken to who lost paragon leveled hardcore characters to lag. nty.
I can definitely see where you're coming from Cube, and the build bit you mentioned is spot on. But you still gotta find all that stuff, and with trading disabled and having to hunt for 3 mats to make a legendary; it does present a time sync, even if it doesn't last long.

blizzard is too shit to play hardcore, if you get a dc in combat you die, and even though it was server's fault they won't recover your hero
