My views on this "Whole" situation

Ok so smolderforge has went down yes... Tbh this is the perfect time to do an upgrade to 3.1. Why? Because no offence but 90% of 2.4.3 pvpers are at a new realm what im not going to say the name of. Also more and more people are eventually upgrading to 3.1 anyways. So yes start a fresh henhouse i agree with fluckadins on that.... and make it a really awesone 3.1 server where you gota work for gear like custom raids and do mayb arenas for bits of gear! shall be awesome... So yeah do this as it would be very nice

Anyway, I'll take it into consideration IF all characters were lost. That was one of the main reasons we never switched. There are just too many characters to run massive queries on. I like staying at 2.4.3 because we don't have to update and there's a lot of people that like staying on it, but I do know it would be nice to try 3.1. What I'm worried about is updating it all the time and new bugs that arrive there. It's likely that there will be some new overpowered class, such as Paladins because not everything will work 100% (can't confirm though).

Thats the only think i would agree with Skriot u cant live on the same patch forever it gets boring and people leave dont matter how buggfree it is.

i will reiterate some of the things i have said. but here goes...
in 3.1 the server is unstable, obviously just like any other patch that comes out for mangos, even the 2.4.3 patch when it came out was unstable. Bugs are almost always there and to play a private server and hope for no bugs is almost illogical. you will just disappointing and lying to yourself. If the server went 3.1 and + the mangos support team is always providing new updates for their patches that are at the current patch on live. SO we would have some bug fixes instead of having to wait 6 months for wound fix like we had to on smolderforge.(no affense just example) I hope that we can come to an agreement if this ever is the case, but like henhouse said, all of this is just speculation : P

People leave anything, doesn't really matter which patch. People are leaving retail at alarming rates now. Technically wise I don't want to venture to 3.x because there's more data, more maps, more vmaps and all that will bring Smolderforge is more latency problems. Once that happens, it's all my fault again because I brought us to 3.x. If Smolderforge loses it's characters I probably will keep us at 2.4.3 in terms of the database. Plans to open a 3.x server are still underway and in fact have been increasing in speed.

Speaking of which I have the accounts backed up from like 3 weeks ago, I could repoint smolderforge.dyndns.info to my IP and run an account server here so people could reconnect at least. Or possibly play a 3.x beta.... if I were able to get it up that fast.

If you had a multi-billion pound product which was terrible but still made money, would you admit you were wrong?

My opinion of course, but there's plenty of WoTLK servers and in comparison not so many 2.4 servers. There's a reason I play here.
