When I was in high school, mine was the SAME way. However, if a website supported encryption (https) we were able to bypass the filter.

So like https://facebook.com https://twitter.com and stuff worked sometimes for us.

Yeah https is the easiest way around the filters. My school was very similar, although I also used hidemyass to get past the filters so who knows?

I might be able to help you with this, as i am also a BC Student

Currently, The BC Ministry Of Education is using a filter called Sophos Web Appliance
This App only Blocks url's via the DNS Server not specific websites. EX. If you search anything with "WoW" or "Proxy" inside the URL, it will get blocked. To bypass this, you have to access the website without having the Name. This is the oldest trick in the book, but it works. Because the BC Ministry is currently extremely Underbudgeted, the are using outdated and ancient methods of filtering websites. You can just Ping the website Using Command Prompt to get the IP Address and then type it into the url bar and you wil l be able to access the website.

By the way, if your wondering why The ministry is cutting back so much its because British Columbia currently is running the highest deficit in the history of The Province, 3.2 Billion Dollars. This is because of the Olympics, The Economic Action Plan, aswell as the $2B We have to give back to our Federal Government because of the HST Being scrapped due to the referendum
