WoWScape's Lawsuit Ended...
And Payton was charged with $89 MILLION for losses and damages to Blizzard Entertainment. I'm sure big servers now like like WoWBeez could be reconsidering what they're doing.
Now a lot of you that played WoWScape are probably like "haha!" but looking at this, not with the idea of Payton there, but anyone running a private server. $89 million? People don't just have that kind of money sitting around. Now I know she made $3 million off of the game, which is what caused this -- however, screwing up the rest of someone's life forever is just wrong. She will never be able to pay that off. It's worse that if she murdered someone and was sued.
Eh, it's just making me feel really skeptical about running Smolderforge now, or at least Wrath for that matter, it's the most dangerous. If I got a cease and desist order from Blizzard I would comply immediately, there is no sense in attempting to challenge Blizzard. I do this for fun, and the moment it gets that serious is when I will no longer be here.
"It is hereby ORDERED, ADJUDGED, AND DECREED that Plaintiff Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. shall recover $88,594,539.00, and post-judgment interest thereon at the rate provided by law until paid in full"

Just to post a follow up, there is the good argument that we run our servers out of America, therefore the DMCA law(Digital Millennium Copyright Act) does not apply to us. Which is why Blizzard targeted US-stationed servers.
But regardless...

Wow. I understand completely if Henry received a cease and desist order and quit. I wouldn't want to put you at risk sir. But seriously, I doubt that is going to happen anytime soon. Our server isn't like the most well known. But if worst comes to worst, I'd back you up in closing shop.

Neither I think that this will happen to Smolderforge anytime soon. Average 500 players online? Nothing special.
And for Blizz, private servers are like free commercials for Blizzard. A lot of Pserver players I've known, have left those servers for Retail, and even more will leave when Cata comes out.

How in God's name did she gain 3 million from the server? Donations?
Dear god. Well i can understand closing the server if it came to that point, in my opinion they should relook the charges. 89 Million is just ridiculous
Then again, thats what you get for challenging a Gaming company powerhouse

Jesus Christ, 89Mill? Holyyyyyy shit.
And yes, I would back you to the fullest if you even received a threat from Blizzard, even if the terms don't apply to us, honest to god putting you in a position like that would make me regret playing the game, or even playing here on SF. Wow though. She'll never pay that off, wonder if Blizzard will have mercy on her next-of-kin on this..
"You're in debt for xxmillion, because your mom played a game." Ouch.
That's quite shocking...

She better have lots of kids and put dat dem kids out on the street if you know what I mean, or marry the CEO of Blizzard. That works too.Imperium wrote:Jesus Christ, 89Mill? Holyyyyyy shit.

She didn't make 3 million off just a game, she made 3 million off of hard working people who get paid a fraction of that; to make the game even possible.Henhouse wrote: Now I know she made $3 million off of the game
I don't know too much about wowscape, but if she really took advantage of it and turned it into a million dollar business... she should have saw this coming.
If you're going to run a private server... do it for fun, not the money. or you're just gonna set yourself up with trouble. imo ^____^
