It would be wonderful if Blizzard would eventually stop ignoring it considering almost every gamer-related online magazine as well as some major ones have written articles on it. They'll either ignore it or saying something along the lines of "we don't have the ______" insert time, money, interest, people, etc. Any excuse. Would be cool if they somehow licensed their IP, but I doubt that will happen too.

They're too proud to admit people don't like the game anymore and/or simply want to play the older expansions they paid for.

That's what I was thinking. But I think the main issue is they can't admit that old expansions were more balanced in PVP and/or more challenging in PVE. Just like Microsoft will go on and create more stupid Windows versions which only cause problems to get money off licenses instead of going back to a version of Windows which worked fine and improving on it.

I wonder how Blizzard reacts to such a comment from their old fellow. The thing is, if they wanted to have that server under their official banner, they would have to monitor it to maintain high quality worthy of their brand name. On the other hand, Nostalrius already had an amazing quality of gameplay. Perhaps they just can't admit their 'mistakes' or bad calls which changed the game into what it is now which upsets so many players who turn to private servers instead.

Looks like that was just an MVP that replied at the bottom of the page.

My thoughts are I am glad that this discussion have finally gained momentum and Blizzard is now being forced to realize the gravity of how badly people want to experience the older games. We were forced to abandon them and buy new expansions every few years... some just want the original game they paid for. That doesn't exist anymore. Nostalrius showed them there is a market for it -- people want it back. Back in 2010 I remember a thread on the official WoW forums locked at 2500 posts for people voicing their support for legacy realms. No one cared. At BlizzCon every year people ask the devs for them and they get the "you think you do, but you don't" response.

Nostalrius did amazing work, but what they did the most was show Blizzard that there are large amounts of players who want to return to WoW -- to the game they remember and loved, but that game was taken away from them.

Mark Kern, the team lead for the original WoW game made a video addressed to Mike, the CEO of Blizzard expressing his support and reasonings for bringing back vanilla realms. I think he articulates it very well, and really reminds people that those versions of WoW are a part of gaming history, and they shouldn't be taboo or "illegal" just to experience them again.

As for their "pristine" server idea. I hope they realize NO ONE wants that. That is a terrible idea. Despite removing advancements from the game, people still end up alone sitting in a Garrison doing nothing. That doesn't bring nostalgia back -- playing the original game that forced you to make friends and play with others to accomplish goals is the nostalgia people want back. Despite the great challenge they claim it would be to bring them back... the best place to start is somewhere.

I hope it happens. Now we have real progress to make it happen. I would kill for Vanilla, TBC, WotLK servers to be opened officially. They just need to do it right, don't add new content, nothing. Leave them as they were. Even begin with progression if you want, too. Open the raids in the order they were released. Now we do have a chance to make it happen. I hope it does :S.
