Core switch to OregonCore
Re: Core switch to OregonCore
After the PreBC release we're going to conduct a new test with another map code edit. Also Adam(Subway) from Pineapple will be assisting us in the test to see if he can locate the problem as well. He's a much more advanced C++ programmer than I.

Re: Core switch to OregonCore
We're running another OC test this weekend. I've spoken with a lot of the GMs today about redesigning the way gear is earned on the server if and when OregonCore is implemented.
Just an quick overview:
Just an quick overview:
- All S3 will be removed from players and a system will be put into place similar to that at AT and other servers.
- Scarlet Citadel loot system will be changed and possibly wiped from players. And/or the raid closed.
- T6 level items will no longer be free (mall wares redesign again).
- Timer on Hyjal.
- Vote system for top sites to promote a new and working Smolderforge.

Re: Core switch to OregonCore -- or TrinityCore
(Thread no longer a global topic, can be found under General Discussion).
This past weekend, several of you may have experienced our OregonCore tests, they lasted 6 hours long as we were trying to draw final conclusions to our testing, numerous other spontaneous errors occured. Ones in which the errors are so big due to corruption within the coding and left us no where to look.
So in our final 2 hours we decided to try TrinityCore's last revision. For those of you who don't know TrinityCore stopped updating and supporting 2.4.3 in about December, in response OregonCore branched off of TrinityCore and continued to develop. However, those developers are not as "professional" and as experienced as the TrinityCore ones are which lead to a lot of unproductive/buggy work.
Adam, who was helping me conduct the tests this past weekend suggested that due to OregonCore's MASSIVE code edits(they did a lot of sloppy reformatting) he suggested that all these "weird, random" problems were being caused by that.
Within 45 minutes I had a TrinityCore test up and running. The server stayed on for about ~10 minutes before it crashed -- however it crashed with 62 players online. Normally lots of other problems would have occurred in OregonCore as the player count was getting above 25. I have reason to believe this is the only "big" crash problem in TrinityCore and I would like to conduct further testing. In fact, I spoke with Adam again today and we can program in a "safe-check" so that the server, upon encountering this error, doesn't crash. Now, running on TrinityCore will not allow us to get updates, or support for that matter, but I feel that with Adam's help we don't really need that. TrinityCore is as good as it's going to get and with OregonCore releasing some fixes, we can just apply them into Trinity for our own benefit.
Thanks for taking the time to read this message, hopefully we'll be able to get this finally working. We might conduct a test the night of the launch of Pre-BC if it's not taking too much of our time.
Give a big thanks to Adam AKA Subway though for helping us through this and narrowing down the problems!

Re: Core switch to OregonCore
it seems the core wont come very soon, but cant you make s4 possible to earn through arena without(before) switching the coreHenhouse wrote:... and then eventually possible to earn S4 through arena too.
Re: Core switch to OregonCore -- or TrinityCore
What makes you think it's not coming soon? We have Adam helping us now. In fact I sat down with him last night and we got a false-check written for the error that always crashes the server. Now we won't be able to fully see if it's going to work correctly until we test it on the live server, but it should just fine. It pretty much in C++ says if it's not complete or correct, continue anyway and log the object/creature that caused the problem, instead of crashing it.
No, I'm not making S4 earnable until TrinityCore. Even then, not for a while. We need to take things one step at a time. Getting on the core is our first priority. Then when we revamp the gear system and people start doing arena more and more we will then around that time probably add it in. I mean I can't promise anything but I don't see why not at that point. It's not going to be very easy to get in S3 anyway, but it will be there.

Re: Core switch to OregonCore -- or TrinityCore
ah and since you wanna balance the server you should remove the t6 offpieces (boots, belt, wrist) or make them somehow hard to get.. you are prolly gonna say that its not only pvp server.. well make them achieveble only from SP and BT or idk.People already know how overpowered wars are with 4/4 gear and now when you fix the wound poison and the other rogue stuff, rogues are gonna be incredibly overpowered with all the pve they got.People say that atm rogues are rly nerfed cause of all the bugs and in 1 point they are right, but why the hell do you need wound if u can just kill any1 in shatter ks if you are playing pve mage/rogue.
Re: Core switch to OregonCore -- or TrinityCore
Yeah I would imagine. I'm going to need a lot of help from people directing me on ways to do a new gear system when we're on Trinity. Also Trinity has a lot of nice scripts working... I was having fun in Sunwell during a test last night :P
We're doing another test this weekend with Adam's code in there. We're going to ask him to sort of administer the progress again to make sure everything is done right. I hope he'll be able too.

Re: Core switch to OregonCore -- or TrinityCore
I love right when we're about to move to Trinity, MaNGOS finally has backported the massive patch that was added in the beginning of Trinity that fixed like... 1/3 or more of all the bugs on MaNGOS. All poisons, stacking, etc. Wow... well sadly I'm not updating us because that'd be a lot of work for no reason since we're still about to go to Trinity. Now if like Trinity failed I probably would but ... that's kinda funny and crappy at the same time. Not to mention they fixed paladin bubble in bg with flag a couple of weeks ago too...
