Re: Server Expansion (community discussion)
Well, I must say I like the Aldor mall. But I'm the only one there. That didn't solve anything. People hang around in the mall ALL DAY. I think that's attributed to three problems:
1.) Cities are useless. So instead of 150 alliance players divided amongst 2 to 3 cities, there all in one place, along with all the horde players. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me 80% of the server are in BG's or the mall.
2.) There's no economy. Since there's no economy, no one is out farming gold, doing professions, etc. People are just sitting around the mall shopping and queuing for BG's.
3.) People spawn at the mall. That's a BIG issue I think. People spawn and just stay there. They should go through an introductory area with a portal at the end that leads to the mall. That's what WoW Gollum used to do years ago. Most creative, innovative private server I ever played on. Players started at GM island, and went through introductory quests, which would give them the gold, then they'd port to the mall when they finished. So instead of starting with 1000 gold, you could have 2 or three introductory quests with 75 gold rewards(for example. If you do things to repair/implement the economy, players can't start out with 1000 gold, because people will just make a new toon and mail themselves the gold to get money, and everything will be massive inflated and you'll have problems).
4.) People que for battlegrounds at the mall. People really should que in their cities, or some cool place maybe that isn't the mall, that way you split the number of players at the mall. (good unused areas: IF airport, area east of badlands, its a little city on the shore, totally unused, etc.)
Anyway, you have a great server henhouse, and I'm glad to be a part of it.
P.S. TBC forever! :P

introductory quests] makes me alt+f4 seriously.. What I like about smolder is that you can setup a char in 5min "because" you dont have to do a shit bunch of quests..Aegrotatio wrote:Well, I must say I like the Aldor mall. Re: Server Expansion (community discussion)
i would say keep the mall as it iss , but just moove the battlemasters to a different area so you can make the current battlemaster area for PVE , this would make PVE alot more atractive and maybe wel finally get some good players in here
and as for the Battlemaster locations well ive been thinking and i agree with most people that it should be in Shattrah just because u can use flying mounts (less crowded , the better FPS )
but to do this i would advise getting an another Coder with u , this doesnt seem like a 1 man job...
good luck bro hope it helps :)

I come from South Africa, jokes aside, we are considered a third world country and we have quite poor internet support here, I'm connecting off of a 384kbs connection. Here are the specs of my laptop.
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
Intel Celeron CPU 560 @ 2.13GHz, 2.0GB RAM, Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
So yeah, I do suffer quiet a bit at peak times when there are tons of people chilling in the malls (BG&player, donor mall isn't too bad).
So here's my advice:
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Overview
1. Utilization of the central oil rig/structure
2. Utilization of additional island space
3. AFK Room
1. Utilization of the central oil rig/structure
The expansion doesn't have to be to a completely separate geographical location, there is a prime location with a little more space which could easily help with the new influx of players, and it'll help with emptying out of the players. Plus players may fall off from time to time which could mean some added entertainment (for others).

So there's some location for you.
2. Utilization of additional island space
The islands aren't been utilized to their maximum potential, the NPCs can be spread out a little more seeing as it has become necessary!

3. AFK Room
You could implement a system which basically gets put into action once a player becomes AFK within the Mall area (this couldn't really be abused seeing as no PvP is allowed there in any case, so players couldn't use it for teleport abuse or anything along those lines).
1. System gets put into action once a player becomes AFK flagged within the mall area (battlemaster & player mall - I guess donor mall even).
2. Player is ported to a designated location on the world map (where PvP is disabled).
3. A Teleport NPC is placed at the AFK location so that players can teleport back to the mall once they are back at their keyboards.
Anyways, those are just my thoughts on this issue. Hope you could find something interesting / of use here.

Re: Server Expansion (community discussion)
I agree with this idea. It would make sense to use that oil rig considering it just sits there with no purpose. The afk room seems like a great idea and would help increase fps and keep from overcrowding. Also yes there is more space on the island that can be utilized. Espcially in the battlemasters area.Tegan wrote:Sniplit
