Gycamping and stuff like that was popular, yes, there was a lot of gycamping in vanilla for example, but overall I have to disagree.Apuclevercow wrote:@Zap wtf are you talking about?
This kind of players on BGs always existed, on retail and private servers.
Stop thinking you're better than the rest of the population, enough to waste a slot on a BG.
Any random who joins would do more.
It's a private server thing.
If you saw people gycamp or zerg on retail, they had a reason for it (omg need first 300k hks, need rank 14 title). On private servers you see a lot of gycamping and zerging, but I think most of it or at least a big part is not intentional. There are countless players who don't even know where you end up when you run through the tunnels in wsg.
When I played on another TBC server I really recognized this, I played some WSGs where not a single player went to even pick up a flag for about half an hour, and it wasn't due to players defending. No it was due to 20 players fighting in the middle of the map and being stupid. That never ever happened to me on retail, and even though it's not as bad on SF, many players play like this over here too.
Just look at this fact and it gets clear: On retail the map didn't show where the enemy flag carrier was. I think their position was revealed when they got the flag debuff, but players didn't need to see the flag on the map, they just checked tunnel/ramp/gy, actively looking out for EFC. Players were defending their bases which is also rare here. And in every BG you had at least 3-5 players who would at least try to grab the flag.
On every TBC server I played on they reveal the position of the flag on the map and you can observe how only very few players choose flags as priority instead of just fighting towards the enemy gy and facerolling.
So there's a big difference between PTFO effort on retail back in the day and PTFO on tbc private servers now. But maybe noone does PTFO on retail anymore, either^^
