Smolderforge Wrath
Re: Smolderforge Wrath
Pre-tbc is interesting, but then again there are a lot of good pre-tbc servers out there. It would also require scripting all the old content which would be a significant task.

Re: Smolderforge Wrath
Pretbc is fucking terrible. Lets create a 2.4.3 pretbc server with TBC stat and damage scaling and fucked up talents - great idea.

Henry used to have a pre-tbc server, he probably has it stored away with some fixes in place. It needs a lot of work though.Exsurgo wrote:Pre-tbc is interesting, but then again there are a lot of good pre-tbc servers out there. Good times.

I was not around then. Shame, as it would be interesting so see how a pre-tbc server on a tbc core would work. As Deems says. probably not very well.

Re: Smolderforge Wrath
It didn't. Spells scale weirdly (lol 2.5k frostbolts in starter gear) and talents are a fucking mess. You can see all TBC talents, but the TBC ones are disabled - and if there was a spell or another talent in that same talent's spot in 1.12.1, you're shit out of luck. Some pretbc talents are now baseline so everyone has them etc etc etc. It's a mess.Exsurgo wrote:I was not around then. Re: Smolderforge Wrath
It was very intense. Two guilds, the alliance guild had a mod as a GM who used to give herself free items. The Horde side would often gank people in Ironforge, there was a lot of world PvP. There was a great deal of drama and intensity, I'd say far worse than Ezatt vs. Firstaidkit. It really did feel like an authentic pre-tbc experience because of this, though. There was real animosity and a real gear race. The raids were challenging (mostly because of the bugs). The funniest part of the server had to be the fact that paladins couldn't go ret, because reckoning doesn't work like it did in pre-tbc on a 2.4.3 core, and we don't have crusader strike. So if you wanted to DPS as a paladin you had to go holy. In other words, you couldn't. Warriors and Rogues were really strong. There was also a great deal of farming, my friend from Hawaii (in the picture) used to farm Molten Core a minimum of 10 hours a day. He would farm non-stop for those T1 off-set pieces. Everyone farmed their hearts out to get as much gear and stuff for the guild. Crazy times!Exsurgo wrote:I was not around then. Re: Smolderforge Wrath
That is my biggest gripe with pre-tbc. Half of the talent trees in the game just blatantly did not work. That and stupid mechanics such as the 8 slot debuff limit.

Re: Smolderforge Wrath
Haha, yeah. I hate when people say they loved pre-tbc, it's just the nostalgia talking. The amount of farming you had to do was disgusting. That said when playing on the smolderforge pre-tbc server there were some truly amazing moments, when we downed the first bosses like Ragnaros, when an awesome epic item drops, etc. It was just like being back in 2006 again. (I only played pre-tbc in 2006 because I'm a scrub).Exsurgo wrote:That is my biggest gripe with pre-tbc. Half of the talent trees in the game just blatantly did not work. Re: Smolderforge Wrath
whn uve cleared bwl and aq40 and MC in pre tbc(retail USA server Kil Jaeden)
it give u that nostalgia it does but it alos was very fun and diverse than what a pric server could be with same thing
theres alot of factors the farming all day and night for weeks on retail to get geared up so u could compete was very intense and if u fucked up during a raid ur own team wiped
downing ragnaros and nerfarion and cthun was seriously hard buisness if u didn not raid the right way
and world pvp was so diff cause of varying levels gears and many ppl didnt have alot of gold
so its nit just someting u can duplicate it will never be like it was.....
so sadly all we have is memories for those of us who did play 1.2.1 retail :)
