Actually, no. Let me take you through it.Gandraman wrote:Still better that living to copy Deems . :DCube wrote:sadGandraman wrote:I live to exist, life has no higher purpose than that.
Existence is the most basic necessity needed to be able to live for anything. So if your highest purpose in life is to exist, then you might as well be lobotomized and put in a box. It wouldn't make any difference for you at all.
If one's purpose in life was to, for example, copy Deems, one would actually have a purpose for existing, which you apparently lack. Someone who lives to eat shit would have a higher purpose than you.
To each his own I guess.

Re: Life
Oh you clearly do not understand what I meant to say boi. "Higher purpose" of living does not exists per se, it is just an invention of ha ha, give me your money religions,so you could be happy not knowing shit, and still going trough your life, thinking you had a purpose.Cube wrote: Actually, no. Thus if you live to eat Deemses shit,or whatever, that isn't a higher purpose,or a valid one,but if it makes you happy...
Now as for me,I embrace my existence as a corporeal thinking being, with whatever life may bring me, good and bad. So you see I do not need to be guided by holy Deems to be happy in my life.
Now I'm sorry you misunderstood me, maybe I wasn't clear enough, but when you come of an age, and read some philosophy, you will understand what I meant to say.

Re: Life
I understand exactly what you're saying my friend. It's simple Darwinian philosophy, a philosophy that I admire. Dawkin's said that "life has no higher purpose than to perpetuate the survival of DNA", which to a nontheist makes sense in the broader spectrum. But on a personal level, it's still sad. Why? Because a purpose in life doesn't have to have anything to do with a grander design, fate, or whatever label you want to put on it. It doesn't need to be a guide, helping you on your way throughout life. It doesn't need to be your life's work.
You're confusing the application of the word 'purpose' here. Without a personal purpose, on whichever scale, you'll wander aimlessly throughout your life, and have no means to evolve on a personal level. So saying that your life has no higher purpose than to perpetuate the survival of DNA is quite sad, at least in my eyes.
But if you're happy to wake up every day, driven only by the most basic instinct of survival, I guess that's cool. Luckily, most people make quite a bit more of their lives than this. Obviously, this isn't the case, at least I hope it isn't, even though it would be quite amusing.
As I said before, existence is the most basic necessity. The people who continue to build a personal purpose beyond existing are the people that bring our culture forward. But stripped down to the bone, the purpose of life in general is to exist, yes. Your personal purpose should be more. You don't need a priest to sell you this.
Even Darwin's life had a purpose, and I'm pretty sure he was the one who decided what that purpose would be.
Edit: This is where you fell.

Actually you did not understand anything, but I'll explain it to you simply,if you want me to. Just say yes or no, it will spare me from typing for nothing.Cube wrote:I understand exactly what you're saying my friend. It's simple Darwinian philosophy, a philosophy that I admire. Re: Life
What makes you think that we, as humans, are the ones whose life is supposed to have some higher meaning? We accidentally evolved into an intelligent species and are currently wrecking the shit out of the planet as if we had another planet to go to.
