TL:DR - democracy in its original form meant that only the armed part of the population can participate in politics. so either we all get strapped up or we create a new form of democracy. however if everyone can participate in every decision then we're still outsourcing the power and responsibility, in this case to the media.
solution: we have more educated people in the world today than ever before and we're also better connected than any time before. so the solution is really simple, all the educated people in the world need to figure out how to monitor the media and/or how to make it independent or at least how to spread awareness about biases and bullshit to the people.

@whambo. Damn man, quite a bit to read, brother. But great points. I keep trying to think optimistically, but it keeps getting more difficult when people around me lose their shit on Kardashians or what color blouse the news achor has on today. How do you stay sane? I'm surrounded by such fools, I find myself imagining being in barrens chat 24/7.
