Rogue Assist
Ok, so I have a rogue and I'd like to get better with it.
I know the basics, but I lack the experience and macros to better the situation. (Sap+focus, blind focus etc.) Really, I'm not overly worried about the 1v1 technique, but more overcoming a 2v1 situation, since rogues tend to draw attention rather quickly. Could I possibly get some legitimate advice and feedback?
That, and possibly some further feral druid advice.
Edit: The rogue had just about every weapon available, I just don't know what the best setup is. Or whether I should switch weapons according to the target and how much armor I may need to bypass. (eg: Both weapons supplying armor ignore, versus just mainhand.) And whether melee haste is really worthwhile or not.
I have: Both donor weapons (Hand and the dagger) The un-socketed SWP dagger with AI, and the Brutal Shiv.

Re: Rogue Assist
1v2?Do plenty of bgs and gain experience.....if you know about focus you know damn well that nobody can give you advice on a "random classes" 1v2 situation. As as rogue you live the moment....you react and adapt in a second...and control the fight....if not....do more bgs....not enough?still hard?do more...and more...and if that's not enough ...too bad.
PS:Use google for focus/blind macros.I doubt too many people wish to share their sexy secret macros with other competing rogues.

Re: Rogue Assist
Alright, figure I'd give a hand, but I just woke up so I might forget some stuff. Anyway, here goes:
1. Macros >>>
Sap Macro
-----------------------------
#showtooltip Sap
/console targetNearestDistance 1.000000
/targetenemy [noharm][dead]
/console targetNearestDistance 41.000000
/cast [harm,nodead] Sap
-----------------------------
Focus Blind
----------------------
#showtooltip Blind
/cast [target=focus] Blind
------------------------------
^ in the same way every other focus macro is made. I personally use FBlind, Fkick, FShS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Weapon Swaps (This shit is unimaginably important)
Coating different offhands with different poisons and using separate shiv macros for them can often provide way more pressure than mindlessly spamming hemo. I personally use the following:
Brutal Glad Shiv --> Crippling
Vengeful Glad Shiv --> Wound
Merciless Glad Shiv --> Mind Numbing
According to that pattern I have the following macros...
"standard" shiv
#showtooltip Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Brutal Gladiator's Shiv
/cast Shiv(Rank 1)
/cast Throw
----------------
Wound Shiv
#showtooltip Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Vengeful Gladiator's Shiv
/cast Shiv(Rank 1)
---------------
MN Shiv
#showtooltip Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Merciless Gladiator's Shiv
/cast Shiv(Rank 1)
-----------------------------------
3. No, I do not think you should be switching your mainhand, I find no reason for it. However the offhand swaps, as I said, can provide an immense amount of situational pressure (e.g. stacking 5x Wound on Druids and then mentaining it with Hemo & WoundShiV tends to fuck them up bigtime).
4. NO, Haste is a totally useless stat for Rogue PvP. You can either go full PvP gear (A lot of top-notch Rogues had proved it works) or get a mix of PvP-PvE gear. I personally am trying the PvPE mix lately, and have the following:
Cursed Vision of Sargeras, Leggings of the Immortal Night, Bladed Chaos Tunic, an ArPen ring which's name I forget, and Hand of the Deceiver as mainhand. You can use more but I wanted to mentain ~300 Resil. With this gearing, I have 300 resil, 2.3-2.4k AP, 1.5k ArPen, ~37% crit, and ~11k health.
5. Gemming: Get the +12 Agi Red Gem and the +24 AP Red Gem. For the remaining sockets you should use +20 AP Reds and/or +10 AP +5 Crit Orange gems.
6. I guess you already know that, but you should practice vanish-negating certain stuff.
7. As far as 1v2/1vX goes, there's no certain pattern. It'll come with time. My only advice is to experiment, heighten your environmental awareness as much as possible and be creative.
What you really need for all that, is TIME.
Hope I clarified some stuff up, have fun :)

PS: Something I forgot. You can set focus targets even with the default UI, you just won't have any focus frames to go with it.
Focus-Set-Macro
/cast focus
----------------------------
It focuses your current target. You can modify it a bit and focustarget your mouseover target, but I personally not preffer it due to my retarded fingers.
----------------------------
Mouseover-Focus
/cast [target=mouseover] focus
---------------------------------
Clear-Focus
/clearfocus
1. Macros >>>
Sap Macro
-----------------------------
#showtooltip Sap
/console targetNearestDistance 1.000000
/targetenemy [noharm][dead]
/console targetNearestDistance 41.000000
/cast [harm,nodead] Sap
-----------------------------
Focus Blind
----------------------

------------------------------

Re: Rogue Assist
Wow, that's alot to take in at once. Thanks very much for the feedback, I'll get started on the adjustments. I currently have two shiv macros, one for mind numbing the other for cripple. Great idea for the wound swap. Is there a way to bind it all into one macro using modifiers like shift/alt/ctrl to make the swap a little less invasive on button real estate? I am already having fun appropriate keybinds that are both easy to navigate, and minimal reduction to my ability to perform other actions while hitting them. (In other words, if I cant press it with one hand, it isn't practical.)

Re: Rogue Assist
I think it is not possible, sadly. It'll most likely mess up due to /equipslot command being kind of retarded :S It maybe can be done with conditional statements but not sure. To clarify...
#showtooltip Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Crip_Wep
/cast [nomod] Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Numb_Wep
/cast [mod:shift] Shiv(Rank 1)
/equipslot 17 Wound_Wep
/cast [mod:alt] Shiv(Rank 1)
------------------------------------
Something like that wouldn't work, as far as I can tell. It'll mess up the swaps so much you 'll want to throw your monitor out of the window. I guess someone more experienced with macros can tell you more, though.

Re: Rogue Assist
One way to get the ball rolling, sit outside and duel. Duel, duel, duel. You'll get better. It helps with situational things and to understand everything better.
Re: Rogue Assist
I disagree. Don't _just_ duel as it sure can improve you, but you'll still be lost in situations where you don't get to be toe-to-toe. And really, how often do you actually get to go one on one? Yup.
It's better to start practicing situational awareness, even arena. First you shouldn't care about the ratings, just play it and think things through after a couple of games. Think about what you did, and what you could have done. Think what went wrong, think what your enemies did and how you could counter it from happening in the future. Think positioning, communication, cooldown usage. Theorycraft. Min-max.

Re: Rogue Assist
Noted, and thanks again. You're right by the way, Balls. I've been dueling mages, priests, shamans and druids so far. While that's very informative, rdruids and rshamans are a pain in the ass to bring down solo. Unless I start chucking arcane bombs... But that's a real lame thing to do in a duel imo.
Though, I've taken out a few Rdruids in duels, I still have yet to nuke a shaman. I'll have to try after I have all these new bindings setup.
Edit: So I heard haste was worthless on a rogue. So hardened Khorium band is not worthwhile, I'm assuming? Sounds like I wasted some sunmotes...

can be fun if you got haste pots.
