This thing just Increased wow freezing for me xD . I don't know how about you !Henhouse wrote:Screenfreezes are a mulithreading problem. We know that much, but it's never been really discovered where the sources come from. This means is due to having a dual/quad core computer and the game process communicating with both cores on your processor.
Now, many of us run on different processors so this "mitigation" will work WONDERS for some, and other others offer little improvement. For myself, on both my PC's Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz and iMac's Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Ghz this works wonders, but like I said, for others maybe not so much.
In the past I've told people every time they run the game to open Task Manager and "Set Affinity" on WoW.exe to 1 CPU. This is an annoyance as you have to run it EVERYTIME YOU RUN THE GAME. Well I discovered there was a WoW setting for this that can be stored in the game files so you no longer have to do that. This also is a viable fix for Mac OS X since you cannot set affinity on Mac binaries.
1. Make sure WoW is completely closed
2. Go to your WoW installation folder
3. Go into /WTF/ and open Config.wtf in Notepad or some text editor program
4. Add the following line:NOTE: If you already have a "processAffinityMask" in there, MAKE SURE IT'S SET TO "1"!SET processAffinityMask "1"

Might as well take this down, it doesn't seem to have helped anyone.

it's like saying you might as well take down all those "class bugs" threads. don't seem to be helping.Xaru wrote:Might as well take this down, it doesn't seem to have helped anyone.
but they keep track of the bugs and can be submitted to trinity and stuff i guess.

Re: Method to reduce screenfreezes
Well, I took the steps this thread mentioned. Setting the config file with the affinity script you guys provided. I believe it actually worsened it for me, as a direct result. Is there a Plan B for eliminating screen freezes?
So far I have tried:
Affinity "1"
View distance and all video settings minimal
All performance enhancing toggles that are designed to reduce lag are turned on
Even doing this, I can bet my monthly salary I will freeze 4 times when I enter combat, freeing me only after I'm dead; only to repeat the second I enter combat again. I love the server, because frankly, there isn't another worth donating to or even trying to progress on. However, and forgive me for going nerd here, but the lag on this server is getting exponentially bad, like the force of gravity between molecules that're being drawn ever closer to one another.

Re: Method to reduce screenfreezes
It's all processor related and I only have little information on some processors; could I get the tech specs on yours?

Re: Method to reduce screenfreezes
I can do that.
Manufacturer: Sony VAIO Netbook.
CPU: AMD-E-350 Processor 1.6 GHz
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
System Type: 32-bit Operating System
Edit: I found reducing the resolution all the way down to 1024/768 helped some. I'm still freezing, but so far it's an improvement.

Is the processor quad/dual/single? I've never encountered AMD processors so I have no information on them with performing on 2.4.3.Zapcraclepop wrote:I can do that.
