A) Find a rogue that you think is ok. Duel him until you get the hang of it. B) Find a rogue that you think is better than the first one. Duel him until you get the hang of it. Repeat step B.

I could write a 'counter cd X with Y, unless he popped Z' etc. But I've found that what I just said is the best, and most fun way of doing it. Action > Theorycrafting.

But if you really want to break the fight down, watch some dueling/pvp vids from back in the day to see how other mages did it.

Edit: Forgot to say that frost vs sub at this gear level in this patch favors the rogue big time. I'm not saying it's impossible, because it's not. But it's hard. If you find a rogue at your own level he'll probably win more duels than you. And a lot of other duels will be lost to the rng sea of shittiness.

Idunno literally everything is counter-able up until you out live a rogues cd's

Ok, I'll go through a fairly simple fight (in very broad terms) with no fancy tricks or so (i.e no cs into saps, ea into openers or anything like that since only about 1% of the rogues use it here anyway).

Let's say the rogue opens with premed > garrote > shiv > ea. This will bring you down to 0 armor while being locked down. The rogue will prolly blow some defensive cds here to keep the pressure up. Nova and he'll trinket it, pet nova and he'll clos and so on. If you're not forced to block before he pops clos that would be a prime time to do it. Wait for your cds here. Usually when I'm in a fight like this I like to wait for my second nova to go off cd before popping snap. Be ready to coc him out of vanish here, then snap and put him in a second nova. And every freeze you put him in should be followed by a shattererd lance (that is frost nova, pet nova and frostbite). Somewhere around here he'll prep and go at you again. Survive the hypothermia and shatter him as much as you can. Also, when you've used your second pet nova dismiss your pet to summon a new one (with a simple macro*).

As said, I'm making this example up from an average-player point of view. And also a rogue using this specific opener. Some rogues will use different openers, for example garrote > ks and so on.

If you want I can go a few rounds with you on my rogue. I'm not very good with it, but hopefully you'll learn a thing or two.

best advice is like he said earlier duel a rogue and just get the feel for it. best way to learn is to go through it all and see what works best first hand

First, start with ice barrier + mana barrier ( a lot of mage start only with barrier)
Then, stuned or garrot dont blink, after silence u can use cone or nova if u ddnt kite him, then he will cos + sprint, u blink, he blink, u IB if he vanish u insta nova to found him, if he doesnt u use javelin to dont let him go out of combat. Then another cycle begin just survive, make him use CDS, then its free win.
Some s4 geared rogue are annoying, but i didnt see any problem with 90% f rogues here. Theory is only theory, u should duel a lot and a lot and see vids or another duels of good mages. first comment of cube is still viable.

Another thing, use only javelin and cone, dont cast, exept after fake cast when he wasted his silence. And use ice bolt lvl 1 to slow him if cone didnt

Hi i'm Rule and i can help you future mages to play successful vs Rogues lol.

but sometimes i decide to go full PvP 11k+ HP and around 450 resi.



There are some strategies that i use, they depend on the rogues opener.
If rogue garrotes me i early block ( stay full 10 secs in block means 20 secs left till next block) followed with icy veins for faster gcd,summon pet,rebuff shield+ barrier,use mana gem and now nova him,at this point the rogue will blow some of his CD's to break nova most of them will use cloak b/c u got hypothermia debuff cold snap and rebuff barrier. Pop icy veins+gul dan and get as many nova/frostbite+ lance as possible and some arcane missiles ( arcane missiles combined with gul dan and icy veins is just sick) to bring his HP down.
If rogue starts with Cheap shot i usually trinket his CS , blink his KS and save block for Cloak/Blind.

You can also try to sheep him and get some distance. You can sheep him by fake cast or you try to force his kick with spamming scorch on him , no matter what its just outplay if he kicks your fire school. If sheep lands most of them will trinket the first sheep to keep the pressure up, you can pretend it by resheep right after the first sheep . Now get some distance summon pet rebuff shields and start to cast fireball to pretend his vanish followed with rank one frostbolt. Good rogues will hardly get you distance, when he sticks to you just nova/frostbite+lance,fireblast and spam some arcane missiles to destroy his HP before he destroys you >.<
Note: If Mind numbing poison is up on you, which it's most of the time, there is not really a point in casting tbh then you're kinda forced to use nova+lance :DDD.
You can use Iceblock Offensively, means remove Blind/CS/KS or w/e or you use it Defensively if rogue pops Cloak,keep in mind you got all your CD's twice. If you survive till next block, you kinda won :>
Even if you play flawless :D, most of them eliminate your HP pretty fast cause of lots of PvE.
It's just theory, the best thing you can do is to duel alot good rogues to get used to it.
