Rogue PvP help
Rogue PvP help
Ok so I'm guessing this has been covered some place else but either some links or quick advice would be appreciated because I haven't found a whole lot searching through this forum.
Basically, what do I need as a rogue? I can't remember the details from my BC days and I have some questions that need clearing up.
Is gemming for AP better than agi?
Should I perhaps be spamming resilience or can I sacrifice a bit of survivability for the damage?
How valuable is armor penetration? For example, is the swing from ~50 pen in a PvP ring to ~150 in the PvE ones worth the deviation from resilience?
Is 4 piece Brutal/4 piece T6 desirable? Or is it better to socketwhore with Leggings of the Immortal Night? Do I go further with other pieces of Sunwell gear and if so, how do I manage resilience?
Is speed the only factor I should consider in an offhand? For example, is Brutal glad shiv better at 1.40 despite the stat/DPS gain from Crux at 1.80?
What's the PvP hit cap? Iv'e been told to aim for 5% but I have ~8 and it still feels like every second gouge or kidney shot fails to land and its pretty critical that they do.
Does expertise matter? If so how do I get it? I've only seen it on the MGT trinket and possibly one of the Sunwell shards (if memory serves) but I can't imagine either being BiS paired with the mandatory PvP trinket.
Any help would be greatly appreciate :)

1.) Agility > Attack Power in my opinion.Jackhill wrote:Ok so I'm guessing this has been covered some place else but either some links or quick advice would be appreciated because I haven't found a whole lot searching through this forum.

2.) In battlegrounds you do not need resiilence at all. For arenas go 200-250+.
3.) Armor Penetration CAN be useful, you will get some by adding PvE gear to your current equipment.
4.) I usually go for 4x S4 + Leggings of the Immortal Night in arenas/battlegrounds.
5.) 2.60 Mainhand and 1.40 Offhand.
6.) Are you sure that you have 5%? Because you cannot miss any spells with 5%. By the way, 79/80 Hit Rating = 5%.
7.) No.
By the way, I pretty much covered everything right there: http://www.smolderforge.com/forums/view ... =35&t=7902
Hope I was able to help a bit.

Re: Rogue PvP help
Yes more or less, although could you expand a little on the degree to which armor pen is useful? Like is it worth using 2 PvE rings or should I always keep a PvP one?
And regarding the hit, I currently have well over 5% but I've seen countless dodges - not the same as misses I guess but thats why I asked about the expertise.
Thanks for the reply though, helped :)

Re: Rogue PvP help
Dodge has nothing to do with hit rating.Jackhill wrote:Yes more or less, although could you expand a little on the degree to which armor pen is useful? Like is it worth using 2 PvE rings or should I always keep a PvP one?

Hit rating = decides if you MISS or not.
From what I know, you cannot miss any spells (Kidney Shot, Gouge, Cheap Shot, ..) with 5% hit rating.
If you want to use armor penetration, then go for full PvE - else it's not that useful.

Re: Rogue PvP help
There is always a 1% miss chance.
And arm pen is really nice, since you get like 700 or 800 from spec alone and most people have 3-4k armor. (clothies n leather)

Re: Rogue PvP help
First, cheap shot can't miss. Or shouldn't, but I'm fairly sure it's bugged here. Same goes for all stealth abilities.Dntryme wrote:From what I know, you cannot miss any spells (Kidney Shot, Gouge, Cheap Shot, ..) with 5% hit rating.
* Might add that I could possibly be wrong about this. I know this is how it worked in wrath, and if changes were made it should be listed in the old patch notes.
And as Seret said, no matter how much hit you stack, there's still a 1% chance to miss. So the 100% hit chance cap isn't necessary, since you can't counteract the last percent, making the hitcap 4%, not 5%. This is how it should work anyway, not sure if it does here.
100% hit cap wasn't possible until wrath, where they changed the hit system. There you could counteract the base misschance, and the racials (which were changed from flat resists to 2% misschance.) The only thing you couldn't do anything about were buffs and talents (such as improved blink, heightened senses, divine purpose etc). This goes for tbc as well, or (again) should. Not sure if that works here either.
tl;dr - The melee ability hitcap for pvp is 4%. You'll always have a 1% chance to miss, no matter how much hit rating you stack, making the last of the 5% useless.

Re: Rogue PvP help
Soooo... Aim for 4% rather than 5? The misses I saw weren't necessarily misses, I just say that because they didn't land. I'm pretty sure they were dodges but that's to do with expertise if I remember correctly and I cbf chasing that stat.
As long as 5 (ish) % hit is all I need, I'm happy.

Re: Rogue PvP help
I think you mean that sometimes stuns get resisted, instead of missing. That happens rather a lot, yes.

Re: Rogue PvP help
You know a way to not have people dodge things is to stand behind them. Ohwait. :DJackhill wrote:Nah, I monitor diminishing returns. Its the dodges that fuck me.
