Dual Spec preview! & discussion needed!

Post by Henhouse »

Hi all, so I am here with some news and video footage of the upcoming dual specialization feature. This feature will allow a player to save an additional spec with their action bars & talents saving between each spec. A simply relog is required! Check the video below for a rough preview of how this works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jiyJXK8KA8

However, I am left wondering how this should be implemented, and I am curious what the community's opinions on such a feature are. While I would love to make this instantly accessible and free to use, I am slightly hesitant for a few reasons.

TBC cores are not optimized to save and store spells properly, so allowing players to double the amount of spells they have could have some adverse effects on the database leading to me needing to clear more often, and also just causing a cluck of data that may not be actively used.

Secondly, this feature cost a bit of money of my pocket to have it developed. I am debating whether or not I would like to release this feature as a 3 or 5 dollar donation, or possibly give the first one out free with a 3rd paid option... However, does anyone seriously need 3 specs that badly? I really don't think so... I could make it available for in-game currency as well I suppose, but where I fall flat on that is this is simply a convenience feature, not a necessity. I am left wondering what option I should take.

What do you all think? Being unbiased and honest.

Thanks, and I hope you're looking forward to it!

I would rather focus on population and fixing gamebreaking bugs. This is the only one PVP server in Europe atm and it had high potential to be like NG at Season 1. There is only one 2k+ team in que per week/2 weeks and that team is constantly relogging on "snipe team" whenever the team which might beat them is online... R2 LD btw xDDDD Other teams in que are 1490 show cloak blood elf male mages which give you +1 after 10 minutes of waiting.(to get 10 games per flush you have to wait 1.5 hour) It is rly hard to even play 10 games per flush. (2k team is waiting 7 minutes to get que popup with 2150 team... the rating range should be increased)

This feature is rly cool but... I dont rly think that someone needs it so badly. It isnt rly that hard to simply retalent/replace 3 spells on action bars. ++ if you are not sure that it wont cause any bugs, it is not imo worthy. But if you want to get some money from it... it might be viable. But there isnt playing enough players which will buy it to even get some of your money back. Its just a minor feature :) but again.. i think that server needs to handle the major problems first.

When I was really into WoW, feral was my main spec. However I had fun playing moonkin (hast stacking) or resto (stam and resi stacking).

But switching between them took me like 20-30 minutes for the talents, spells on the bars, etc. Moreover, it was usually hard to get a BG when I had free time to play, and it already happened that I got a queue pop when I was switching so I had to enter and hide for 5-10 the time to finish my shit.
Plus, I could only get most of my transmog items as a feral, I used to farm lvl60 dungeons so many days.
This just led me to stay feral and play merely feral.

This feature looks like transmog, it's a nice feature but not necessary: Wambo and I used to play BGs wearing some good looking robes.
Therefore as a non-necessary thing, a 3$ donation seems to be appropriated.
If you improve the voting system, I guess making it available for vote points isn't a bad thing.

Anyway Evolve is totally right, we should focus on PvP improvements but to do so, we need such "minor PvP features" to show that Smolderforge dev team is still doing efforts and then, players will be more likely to give their opinion on what they would like to see coming here, on how they would like to see them implemented here, etc. (i.e. CF BGs, a better arena management, etc)
I'm pretty sure it would work well, as we've got the very best dedicated developer.
About "gamebreaking bugs", to report them on the bug tracker is the only way to fix.
Grael introduced us a test server but it seems like the plan didn't work afterward. Any reason ?

This feature is really a most wanted especially for people like me who mainly playing druid or priest. I think 3 specs are needed, hell the last few days I respecced my druid like 4( BG/Arena/PvE) times in less than an hour and that's just annoying. It should implented like this the first for free and the second for donation/vote points (200).

Henhouse wanted the opinion of the community not from the staff. Just think about the players who can't donate.

Make sure to copy over lower ranked spells when saving the actionbars. Unlike the addon "actionbarsaver" which always puts out the highest rank of your spells when loading up a save.
