help connecting to server

Hello,

I am new to the smolderforge server, but not new to wow or private servers. I just downloaded the torrent from the smolderforge main page and ran the wow install/TBC install/patches. Then when i run the launcher it just goes to download an update and when i try to log in via running .exe it again goes for an update. I might not have set patchlist right? (pretty sure i did). Just looking for some help as i wish to play TBC arena like in the good ol' days.

You may be used to Wrath servers where the realmlist is in the Data folder. Not in the case of TBC and earlier versions. The realmlist.wtf file was in the root folder where all the other .exe files are. Be sure it's only "realmlist.wtf" and no other extensions.

yea thats the list i had opened, but it only asked if i wanted to open it w/ microsoft word so idk if that affects it at all (use to using wordpad or something). im reinstalling the game clients and patches from the torrent see if that helps any.

now that i re-installed the clients/patches when i go to open the realmlist.wtf with word i change it from

set realmist eu.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com

to

set realmist connect.smolderforge.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com

when i try to save it it says that i cannot save it at desired location (wow folder) and to contact administrator?

also whenever i try to log on, it tries to do an update from wow version xx.xx.xxto 4.0? don't know if that matters or not if the realmlist is being unable to be changed. I reopened the realmist.wtf with notepad and not word and again said access to save at desired location was denied.

alright, figured it out i just made a new .wtf file and put the patchlist info in that and replaced old one and it worked and i was able to get onto server.

Great. Also if you replace both lines with the "connect.smolderforge.com" address it will fix the Launcher from trying to auto update too. Hence the "set patchlist" line.

Guys I have the same problem I downloaded everything correctly but when I try to change realm list, it says contact administrator for permission, I really need help I have been trying to play on this server from 3 days now...

Ok I changed the realm list but the launcher keeps popping up..?

Now it says unable to validate game version when I login ..
