Why you should quit listening to requests for removals.

Post by SheLexa »

"Users are good at pointing out the problems, but not at providing solutions for them"
Steve Jobs.
That man knew his job, and the same should be applied to Smolderforge.

Why?
Because whatever the subject is there will always be a group of people who will complain about it, ALWAYS ABOUT ANYTHING.

Some people want AV removed, some want EOTS removed, some want some potions removed, some want some gear removed, and the list goes on and on and on...

If Henhouse was to listen to every player or group of players he could just delete the entire server, people will always cry that this or that is OP, and if you remove on thing they will just switch to crying about something else.

Blizzard never removed something from retail only because people were crying about it, they conducted internal testings and if they belived something had to be changed then they changed it, there is a reason for it.

Players are a key part of the server and feedback is welcome, but users should never run the business.

There is a point where WOW isn't WOW anymore, there is a point where changes should stop because we are not making a new game here.

Running a server is like running a startup, and dam Steve Jobs had a good point.

So many things have changed over the last year (I'm here for about 3 years), and after all this balancing and "improvements" we ended up with a huge population loss, think about it.

There is so much from Business management that should be applied to server management, and even guild management.

And one thing I see so many servers lacking is a clear and strong vision of what do they want to be, so they keep changing and looking for them selves, and so many fail, for a reason.

(I'm talking in general in this post, not only about Smolderforge)

Yeah because players never justify their suggestions, lol.
Do you even realize that the major population drop occurred long before nerfing potions and wiping SWP gear?

1. Try suggesting anything, any they will come up with reasons you and I can't even think about as justifications, that doesn't make them right, people always justify anything if they want to.
And even if a change or request sounds legit at first it doesn't mean it will be good.

Just for god sake look at how Blizzard handles changes and suggestions, do you really think anyone here knows better then them?

1. Do you even realize that I'm talking about the big picture and not a single specific change?

The population drop happened a year ago, if anything we've seen improvements since the removal of SWP. (223 players online to be exact).

These changes were made for many, many reasons. I suggest reading my explanation if you haven't already. Yes, we can't give everyone what we want, but if you ignore players/customers/users/whatever long enough, eventually they'll not want anything to do with you anymore. I made a decision based on what I felt would better my server as a whole; and I did just that.

If you've ever played a Blizzard game, and understood the mechanics and dynamics of said game, then you know how fucking clueless Blizzard is when it comes to change.

You're bringing up one of the worst examples possible, because it's one of the things they're really, REALLY bad at.

Not even going to address the rest of your post, since it's really just a bunch of bs said without any perspective at all.

While I agree with you completely here, he did bring up one fact. This almost constant requirement to try and remove something from the game that doesn't need to be removed. (Not counting SWP, that should have been removed years ago.) I'm waiting for someone to scream on how OP flasks, oil, and food are and demand they're removed. Knowing this community, it's only a matter of time.

I can do that. So can math. Flasks and oils are ridiculously op, among quite a lot of other things.

Edit: The only point being close to reasonable that's being brought up by the op would have to be this.
