Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
Blizzard also intented S4/SWP gear to be available on a much lesser scale than the current one. I do not see that happening here, do I? Blizzard intented FAP's and other consumables to require some mats as well. I don't see that here either. Blizzard intented many things. Out of all those, nearly none is used here the way Blizzard intented to have them used. Stop bringing Blizzard into your arguments. You know, as well as I do, that SF is far from retail, by a long shot.
And a poll is not the solution. The forums are not frequented by a sufficiently objective sample of the SF community. A biased poll is hardly any good (Regardless of the results) - This is a decision that should be made quickly and efficiently. Not that it will, but one can only hope.

I am quite sure he was referring to the in-game polls which do a good job at representing the player's opinion and not a fraction of them from the forums.
I would definitely be in support of gathering public opinion on it.

Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
Blizzard did indeed intend for free action potions to be in the game, just as they intended most consumables to be available. They did however control the distribution. People had varied professions on retail, since most professions brought something to the table. That is, most people didn't have alchemy or engineering. Quite a lot of people didn't have professions at all. And most of the ones that did only had one main profession, the other being a gathering profession to maintain their main one. Since gathering professions are useless here, people pick two main professions, which required a lot of effort on retail, to say the least. Since engineering and alchemy requires close to no effort to get maxed here, they're the most common ones, which is the opposite of how it was on retail. Not saying that it was rare, but tailoring/enchanting/jewelcrafting were the most popular, followed by leatherworking/blacksmithing, followed by engineering and alchemy. Engineering and alchemy were also the most tedious and pricey professions to level, and maintain.Firstaidkit wrote:Lol I'm not crying at all why should I? You are the one crying to remove this fap. I'm just saying leave it as it is since Blizzard intended it for this patch (if you know what intended means). QQ on forums cuz the top-tier class can't play without his CC.
P.S. Please do a poll about this so we can finally tell how much people actually dislike FAP. That's the only reasonable solution else we can discuss this for 200 pages long but the outcome will be the same. Or wait maybe Henhouse doesn't wants to remove stuff that Blizzard intended for this patch :o.
On top of this, mats weren't free. You had to work for it. And with everything else you had to do - leveling, daily quests, raiding, gold farming, battlegrounds, arena - you didn't have all that much time to do so. Even buying stuff on the ah could cost a good deal of coin, even when it came to low level mats, since a lot of people compensated with the ah when they leveled their professions, which made the prices go up. Just farming the mats took time and effort, no matter what level the zone you farmed in was.
All in all, with the effort needed and the game time distributed, you had to go crazy to be able to spam profession consumables. I've been using engineering since vanilla, and have been quite generous with my grenades. It did however take a lot of effort on my behalf to do so. I spent a lot of time collecting mats, and a lot of gold on top of that, which in itself took effort to get a hold of.
So yes, Blizzard intended for free action potions to be in the game. They didn't intend for half the player base, and all their alts to have multiple stacks of them, and be able to pop an unlimited amount of them at will. They didn't intend for guild banks to be filled by standing afk. How did they restrict this? They did this with the profession system as it was designed. And you know what? It worked, and consumables were limited. In return, quite a lot of them were fairly powerful, free action potions being one of the more powerful ones around. Remove the restriction and you introduce a massive imbalance to the game, something Blizzard never intended to do, and something I would like to think Henhouse doesn't want either. But that remains to be seen.
So in the future, as QuantumVoid said, don't bring the Blizzard argument up, because most of the time you do, you bring something that Blizzard never intended to do in the first place.
I can say, with a 100% certainty, that if free action potions were as common on retail as they are here, they would get nerfed to oblivion. But they never were. In fact, they were very, very, very rare, and you almost never encountered them.

Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
I'll say what I've been saying from the first time I saw this argument pop up. Use professions as an incentive. I don't have a problem with any profession, even if some of them renders me close to useless. My main problem is, and has always been the accessibility around here.
Why not integrate profession and material distribution into an in-game activity? It would be perfect for world pvp, and would work just as well for pve. Professions have always been a bonus for the people who were willing to take the time and effort to maintain them, so it doesn't contradict the whole "fun server" concept. There's quite a lot of bonus material, so to say, that's being handed out for free on the server, that could instead work as a fuel to boost activity. Transmog gear and profession mats are perfect examples. Why not make the tier sets as a reward for pve? Why not make the pvp sets as a reward for pvp? People love to show off their dedication on the server, but a lot of the dedication isn't something the server focuses on.
I really don't get it.

Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
Seeing you're all arguing. I think it's best to have FAP removed. There are already enough people with SWP gear and having FAPs just makes it worse. If you remove FAP then everyone will learn to use their pvp trinkets every 2 minutes, plus when they get owned they'll realise that maybe SWP gear sucks without FAP and that they're just 4-5 hits away, thus making people use more pvp gear or stick to SWP gear but get wipped easier, cause there's no FAP. I think that's the best solution. Remember Smolderforge isn't Blizzard. Warglaives are also made by Blizzard, but you don't see anyone running around with them. Im sure you can remove FAP too. One PvP trinket every 2 minutes is enough, you just have to know when to use it. It's that simple. Don't use it just because you get stunned or feared if no one's attacking you. Think a little bit. People will be pissed at first, but they'll get used to FAP being gone in a week, hell even less. If you're all here to pvp then pvp, don't ''fap'' ''fap'' all the time. Well Henhouse ?
Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
in the 3 plus years when i was a young lad playing from wow realse to release of tbc i never once encountered a free action potion in retail battlegorunds world pvp or duels
never seen a living action potion used either on retail vanilla and tbc
most of the "queer shit" as i call it wasnt intended to be used on massive basis
take thistle tea and all the exliris and flasks do u know how extremely hard and pricey it was to get the mats and tendious to farm them it took a bit of effort and commitment to maintain ur reagents and the finished products.
and weve all used these things from time to time when we were noobs or just wanted to piss ppl off
but it needs to stop.
Fap needs to be removed as LaP they too ima on a server where theres so much burst from pve shamans and mages and locks in battlegrounds and when u must cc to control a group of ppl and they all run at u with Free action Potion makes it quite hard not to get zerged... and i dont even play bgs and eveyone knows this and i still know how gay it is
makes no sense to have warglaives disbaled and shadowsong panther but allow something as Imba as FaP

Re: Pls remove Free Action Potion
I had two main proffessions on retail. Jewelcrafting and Leatherworking. I leveled both without a gathering proff. Also I don't like to farm materials on a private server. If it's retail than it's oke but not on a private server. No, thanks.Cube wrote:Blizzard did indeed intend for free action potions to be in the game, just as they intended most consumables to be available. They did however control the distribution. Half the playerbase? You're exaggerating. From where are you getting this data? I actually only see a few guilds use them. Also according to you anyone can get those flask so I suggest you get those flasks yourself. Why change something that has been like this for years?Cube wrote:So yes, Blizzard intended for free action potions to be in the game. Whatever way you go Blizzard still intended this Flask for this patch with or without the unlimited access to materials. That's a decision that Henhouse made with the proffs. And do you really believe Blizzard gives a shit about balance? That's why they make every new class they introduce fucking retarded OP. That's why they give rogues 8 abilities to crowd control and shamans none in this patch. Blizzard only cares about the money they get and how much subscribers they get new each month.Cube wrote:So in the future, as QuantumVoid said, don't bring the Blizzard argument up, because most of the time you do, you bring something that Blizzard never intended to do in the first place.

Of course but that will be a major change to Smolderforge which a lot of people will dislike. I'm pretty sure of that. Also funny how you said in one of your prev posts that doing a poll will conclude a biased opinion. Instead we should all listen to Cube his biased ideas and implement them all and hail him. Also lets make a statue in the mall in the shape of a Cube. That's way more biased than asking the server to share their opinion in a poll imo.
