I started playing on this server back in 2012-2013 or so, and have been coming and going for some years if retail has got me bored. I recently watched a 2011 review of the server, and it's amazing how everything has been kept almost exactly the same for all these years. And that's cool, the server is good and kind of well balanced, especially compared to some of the competition out there. But the community has died down alot, that's something i hate to see, but it's far from over.
So what can we do to stir things up?
Events, we really lack them and it could be loads of fun and bring alot of players back, or get alot of new players interested in the server, especially since private servers has really gotten popular over the past couple of years.
Smolderforge could easily be at 500-1000+ pop during midday, but there's really not much going on here, and i can see why new players might get bored quickly.
Gurubashi Brawl 1v1, 2v2, or even last man standing events would be loads of fun. On retail people still hang out in Gurubashi all around the clock, while waiting for queues to pop and such, and it really has it's own community which is unique now'days on retail. There could be certain conditions like, no buffs, no major cd's, tiers(s1,s2,s4).
Nagrand is an amazing place that could be done so much with, it has an arena, looks great, rather huge, and just a great place for world pvp, i used to love this back in TBC. A system could be implemented that gave you a token for each kill you got in the zone, there would be vendors rewarding you with cosmetics, mounts, or whatever stuff. You would get honor still, making it another source of gearing up, maybe while waiting for queues to pop when there are not many on, you'd still have something to do besides staying at the duel area. It would be less efficient, but still something extra to do, would also bring world pvp into the server, again spicing things up alot. This wouldn't require much effort to do, besides maybe the token system which again was just a suggestion.
Although original, and maybe abit lame, staircase events was a huge part of the old school private server feel, i mean, almost every fucking server had a damned staircase event, you could put some vanity reward at the end.
This is not really a good/fun idea by any means, but think it was worth noting, it's still "content" and something that could be fun doing. Could be spiced up abit, making it a contested zone, with respawn points along the staircase so you wouldnt have to start over completely.
Titles, mounts, cosmetics etc could all be a reward for staff-hosted events.
Smolderforge is one of the oldest TBC servers out there if i am not mistaken, there's alot that could be done to take advantage of the massive rise in popularity of private servers.
I'm ready to help out anytime wherever it's needed.
Let's get some feedback!
---UPDATE---
Just did a 8-man 1v1 Tourney tonight, 1st price 260 Badges of Justice.
Congratulations to Babalau who won.
It was a major success, i wish i could of recorded it but wasn't able to.
Whole LFG chat came out of hiding and fought eachother 1v1 clean, it was painful and it was hilarious!
Would love for more of this to be done, and i think everybody else would too.
A breath of fresh life for the server!
