Questions regarding world pvp.

Post by Imwatchingu »

1) Why did you add the neutral dueling zone? It basically destroyed any hope of going into the other factions city and killing them (Which was one of the most memorable and exciting things about wow for me). Not that it happened a lot anyways because of the neutral Tanaris battle masters, but still. Just a question, don't hate me for it.

2) Why can't you attack the opposite faction at the Isle of Quel'Danas? Doesn't make much sense to me. Just get rid of Aszarahs crater, and put more incentive into doing daily's. Such as getting vanity items, pets, or mounts. Yes I know we have that now, but they're bought with badges, which you can easily vote, donate, or bg for. What I'm suggesting is that when you do all of the quests, maybe you get a little reward box with different percentage rates for items. Kind of like the Christmas presents you guys got a couple months ago. But it can also be filled with junk too, making the good items more satisfying to get.

(Questions 1 and 2 would fix World pvp imo, tell me what you think. These next ones aren't very relevant to the latter.)

3) Arenas are dead. One reason is maybe because it only costs 5$ to get full brutal gear, and the other reason is that you don't promote it. I think you should raise the price of S4 and Swp items to 20$, and put out propoganda for arenas.

4) I think this server needs more Gm to Player interactions. I never see you guys do any events, like on Eternal Wow the gms there every Saturday do an event of some sort. And it can be anything from making themselves raid bosses and attacking cities, or giving you every buff in the game. The point is that it's fun and is a good way to interact with your player base.

These are just my opinions and suggestions, please tell me what you think. Constructive critisicm only please :)

Ps. Sorry for grammatical errors through out here, I made this pretty late at night lol

1) Players wanted to be able to duel everyone on the server, it was the unique solution. You, and many other rogues are only the ones who feel a nostalgia of the original duelling areas.
It's not funny to duel someone and getting killed before/after the end from an ambush or if it's exciting for you, I'm afraid that your e-peen is incredibly small.

2) Simply because of its name, "Neutral duel zone" ?
Your question is as smart as someone who may ask why we can attack opposite faction on BGs.

Which daily quests are you talking about ? It may become a nice idea for the BG dailies.

3) Arenas aren't dead, anyway it's smolderforge and thus, this is not an huge concern for casual players.
Arenas are quite inactive at some hours, quite active at some others (the night usually).

4) Same thing for GMs, they're mostly active at the night.

Many donors play arena.
This server lacks population for arenas to work properly. To encourage more people to play arenas I'd suggest replacing s3 off-sets as starting gear with s2, making s3 off-sets and weapons cost only arena points, without the rating requirement.

Well, first off, saying that I want it back just based off the fact that I have a rogue is pretty ignorant. I also have a Spriest, lock, druid, paladin, hunter, and shaman. The main reason I suggested bringing it back is not so that I can jump on my rogue and step ambush kids, but instead I want it back because I remember getting together an epic group of alliance players and going and killing all the horde. Or vice versa. For example, on my old server, the dueling area was Gold shire, and at least once a day a group of about 10-15 horde would run down and kill everyone. And even though I was the one being killed, it was still fun for me because it presented a challenge and reward system. The challenge obviously getting a group together to take out the horde, the reward of being victorious and taking back Gold shire. If that makes me have a small e-peen, then I'm ok with that.

Any and all dailies.

Thank you Cube, I'll make sure to change that lol

Many donors play arena because of how cheap it is to have S4, it becomes a pay to win situation. Which is why I suggested raising the price. I don't think that the lack of population has anything to do with it either, at peak hours this server has more then enough players on to have 20-30 different arena teams competing at once. However, I do agree with you at starting off with S2 gear and working upwards. But I would like to see it pushed back a step even further, to starting with S1 gear, then having to do bgs for S2. Then arenas for S3 and S4. Yes I know S3 and S4 basically have the same stats, however, the rating requirement is what makes the difference. Anyone can get S3, but you need to be at a certain skill level to get S4. Which is what makes it special. Like the first time you saw a High Warlord or Grand Marshal, you knew that was an exceptional player and because of that title you had respect for them before you even met them (I'm talking about back in vanilla by the way). The same would apply with S3vsS4.

However, I did some thinking and what if Hen were to make some items only purchasable through arena points? Everything you can buy, you can buy with honor. Which, again, gives no incentive to do arenas at all.

Or, Hen could make another badge system, that you could only get from some sort of daily quest. For example, let's say that Hen revved up the Npc's in Halaa to trash mob level in raids, and made it so that the only way you could buy S4, or Black Temple items was through capturing Halaa from the other faction. And, in capturing Halaa you received some sort of token which would allow you to purchase Sunwell level gear or some other item of your choosing. Like a rare mount or pet. What this does is force members of the alliance and horde to create raid groups within their factions and fight each other at Halaa for dominance. Also, you could make it so that once you kill a X amount of players who's faction does not have dominance of Halaa, you could also get badges that way. So, Horde has Halaa, if you kill 10 alliance in Nagrand, you get a badge. Which, is extremely good in my opinion. It would create some active World PvP, and let the players of Smolder forge see some Outland geography and content which they wouldn't see otherwise because they have no reason to. Azeroth is a HUGE continent, use it. I've seen a similar system on another private server and it works wonderfully. Yes, people will gank you, and camp you. So what? It's a pvp server. Get over it.

Sorry for that wall of text, I'll try to minimize it and keep it concise next time. Thank you for all of your opinions and responses, it's nice to see people taking this into consideration. What else besides what's been listed would you like to see? Or, is there anything that has been listed that you think you could improve on? (Which I'm sure you could :))

Your dead server isn't smolderforge, you may not compare.
Smolderforge had for a long time original duelling areas which where at orgrimmar/stormwind entrance, I guess a huge amount will agree that quel'thalas is better because at hollow hours, it's impossible to duel w/o this area.

S4 isn't the only condition to do some arenas, a huge part of S4 players doing arenas have a lot of difficulties to break 1,7k, 1,8k, etc.
Moreover, casual players are important in this server and they mainly want to do some BGs.
Raising S4 costs or switching starter gear to S1 will just kill the server because of the huge gap we'll see between new players and old/donators. SF needs new players, seeing this gap will just make them leaving. S4 / S2 + HS S3 is the maximum gap imo to don't be in a case of important imbalance : Just imagine a SWP/T6 player against a S1 geared player in a BG, will he enjoy dying and will he stay on the server by winning 200 honor points per day ? No, he'll just leave it.
Moreover, what can do against S4 players in arenas if you're S1 ? With S3 gears you may win if you're good but with S1, it's impossible to win.

I agree that having purchasable items with arena points/rating requirement would be nice.
Just saying, you're lucky that some arena pimps left the server, it gives more chances for new players in arena to not lose their 10 games.

Making people doing Halaa shits, capturing Hellfire peninsula/Auchindoun towers... Do you think people will do this without huge rewards ?

Hey there, thanks for your feedback. Here's my input and responses on this:

1. This was highly requested by the community. The dueling zones were populated, but many players wanted the ability to duel players on the opposite faction without having to travel to Hyjal (the then Azshara Crater) and duel and risk people attacked out in the open. Additionally, it added more variety and more people to duel with. Many players would raid these locations but it wouldn't be like "Siege of Orgrimmar!" and killing Thrall or anything, it was really just Rogues and other people waiting until a duel ended and immediately killing the 1HP player and sprint & vanishing away. It caused great annoyance between the community and was preventing people from dueling. These dueling areas are still available, it is just that many more people preferred a neutral area for all to duel.

2. For the same annoyance as above. We did this YEARS ago because originally there was too much PvP on Quel'Danas prior to having an open PvP zone and Quel'Danas is very attractive for NEW players. New players who are trying to farm badges and earn gear. It was extremely annoying for these players to be doing a quest and immediately get ganked by someone in full Season 4 gear and then to proceed to be corpse camped. We received many, many complaints and opt-ed to be make the zone friendly. Blizzard also regretted this I believe as they made their next daily areas (Argent Tournament) in later expansions, sanctuaries.

3. Actually we lowered the price of Season 4. Originally it was insanely high to obtain because back when SF was very small we were worried about wintraders and other people farming the gear too quickly. Obviously we have a bigger community and more measures in place to prevent this and we about a year or more ago lowered the prices drastically to where obtaining S4 is definitely within reach of PvP players.

4. This has been an open debate for a long time. I designed the server to not need GM interaction to progress in the game, but I do understand people enjoy events. Sometimes events go drastically wrong though. Because normally it's a couple of GMs attempting to maintain control between many, many players. During PvP events these players tend to start running around, disrupting 1v1, 2v2 matches, aggroing things, etc. whenever its inappropriate. We usually have to have GMs literally being jail-guards to players to immediately boot them from events if they go wrong. In terms of events like big boss spawning, or other misc. events players actually start flaming when there are no rewards, or big rewards like SWP or S4 (not kidding). There's not much we can give out that players don't already have, or isn't available (really TBC didn't have much vanity), so we run slim on things other than generic rewards like badges or honor points. So we would like to do events, hell, I have a fully programmed Godzilla event that I can trigger on on the server and allow like 40 people to go raid him and earn badges, pets, and consumable vanity stuff, etc. I just don't do it often because it sometimes results in amok mess.

Don't even say that. Terezi is constantly trying to make events... But you guys whine and complain due to a lack of rewards and refuse to get on board. If that's not enough, you guys go out of your way to sabotage the event. Thank your community for the lack of events, but don't blame the staff. It's not their fault that you've all forgotten events are for fun, and not SWP recipes or s4 codes. It's unrealistic to ask staff who cannot make items in the first place, to spend their time farming for stuff to hand out (which you STILL bitch over.)

I'll even offer an example: Terezi handed out rewards ONCE at an event she made, took her days to obtain what she had. The entire time people laughed at her for not handing out sunfire robe recipes and warglaives...
You do not deserve events, imo. How or why she continues to try with you spoiled shits is a mystery to me. Prove to them you deserve the effort, because so far, you've only done the opposite.
