Re: Open PvP Alterac
I'm still looking forward for a new PvP zone or improving Hyjal.
HYJAL SUCKS, and there is simply no alliance in there.
I was thinking about some suggestions for this:
Suggestion #1:
Move the battleground masters to the Open-PvP area so that people have to go there to queu the battlegrounds.
Suggestion #2:
Have hyjal open 24/7 because a lot of time it's closed if I wanna go there.
Suggestion #3:
Remove those (old) daily quests in there and make some (new) PvP quests instead will be much more fun then killing the general or guards each time. The rewards can stay the same.
Suggestion #4:
Buff the spirit guards so that it will avoid graveyard camping.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
Why the hell would anyone want to get rid of Alterac Valley, even if you're bored of it, this place is properly scripted. Reason enough to not touch it with custom crap.
Open PvP would be awesome to have, but there are design decisions on the server which make it hard to implement.
You just can't move BG masters to Open-PvP zones. It's pretty pointless, people want to queue up for a BG (as its the most effective way to get honour for new items), not get camped by the bigger group. On top of that it kinda sounds boring to camp BG masters for HK. I want to see random action, not mindless HK grind. Screw that useless number, I want random challenges, that's Open PvP to me. I want to ride along in a zone to get some profession materials, and get jumped on by a random player who farmed some crap aswell, but I've mentioned that often enough, profession items shouldn't be sold. At least not everything, most notably Flask ingedients and other temporary things should be farmed. Honestly I don't care if you just can use the flying mount, it's still better than just using a portal to an NPC which sells the crap.
People complain about Donators, yet it's the flask/potion spam and stuff which makes a real difference in PvP.
Hyjal in general sucks imo, it's pretty much a BG without any group limit. The Horde just has the upper hand here, as it has bigger numbers. This probably is an issue with Azshara aswell, and not to forget, both zones are unfinished, that's just my personal gripe with it though, I can't help it, I just hate invisible walls, and missing textures (on Azshara Crater or what its called this is pretty a big issue imo). Even if Quests get changed, and some sort of balance is present, that place is just boring, no LoS, no onstacles, fail. And yeah, you probably know how useful I find guards which just oneshot everything, yet they can't handle a proper group, the AI just sucks.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
Only suggested to move the BG masters so that the players will actually JOIN Hyjal instead of avoiding it and staying in the mall until bg pops. And that's why I also said improve the guards so that it will avoid graveyard camping.Peekaboo wrote:You just can't move BG masters to Open-PvP zones. Never said that you would be able to attack the BG masters and farm them :s. There is no point in doing that. If Hyjal get some improvements it can become that Open PvP-area we all want.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
Well even if you do that, people will join Hyjal indeed, but what prevents them from running to the GY instead? ^^
I'm totally into Open PvP, but when I want to queue up for a BG I pretty much just would port, to do so, and probably just port back to be save, if the queue gets removed when leaving the zone, I'd just afk ''til I get killed by a huge red blob or not, in the end I'm at a GY which couldn't be touched at all. I still can queue now, and if I want to I can join Hyjal.
But that's just my view on things, I think I have a different stance on what Open PvP should be about, and on top of that it comes with its own problems aswell (most notably population issues, you'd need about 1200 players to have a fulltime Open-PvP I'd like to see, which involves farming profession crap and stuff like that.)
Thing is, as of now stuff works pretty well, although population took a slight hit the recent days, and I'm unsure what it may have caused, but in the end you have solid PvE (which isn't perfect, but compared to other servers it's worthwhile), and BGs.
Hyjal... well isn't Open-PvP at all to me... it's a BG without group restrictions, without objectives, in an unfinished zone.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
yes i remember this server i was called Chaos crusade then remnants of chaos then chaos crusade, the open alteric valley was the best way for open pvp when that server had a low population of like 300 there was still good pvp going onand everyone was still doing BG's. This server ended up having a population of 800+ everyday allday.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
What we need is a big open expanse of land and a reason to be there other than pvp, daily quests for badges or something. Then you dont get the issue with big groups camping as you can just go 2 another part of the map and do another quest, somewhere like umm ungoro crater would be great for something like that. But there needs to be a reason to be there other than just pvp.
Quel'danas would have been good but since now everyone goes there to craft it just creates a big spawncamping zone. Would be nice to get some world pvp 2v1, 1v1 random pvp etc, rather than horde base ally base zerg basically a constant bg where you get outnumbering.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
I think Azshara Crater, if designed well could prove to be quite interesting. But it would take me a long time to develop that nicely, add content, write quests from scratch, etc.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
Thing is that it would be exactly like Isle of Quel'danas, the only difference being Shattered Sun reputation which there is an alternative non-daily quest route to get a hold of (Mgt). I know this has been discussed before, and also that it's been turned down. I just don't see the reason when you think this might be a good idea. Sure back in the day people complained that they couldn't do their daily quests in peace, but the same thing will be true for this idea. People will always find something to complain about when pvp is involved.Henhouse wrote:I think Azshara Crater, if designed well could prove to be quite interesting. I'm not questioning your decision. If you say no, then it's a no and I respect that. I'm just questioning the reason behind it when you might be willing to go through with this given enough time.
I might also add that I didn't really follow the Quel'danas discussion more than a peek at it from time to time. So I guess I should do that before posting this, but I'll do it the other way around instead because I'm a bit stupid.

Re: Open PvP Alterac
Well I meant more like the current setup of Hyjal. You're there doing the dailies (if you are) while PvPing, since the quests there actually are focusing around PvPing. Quel'Danas is focused around earning badges and reputation for advancement on the game, particularly for new players. Therefore the PvP in Quel'Danas ruins that ability to do so from ganking, higher-geared players. I've seen it happen and it's just not fun for some.
But an area focused mainly on PvP would be a bit better for that I would imagine. Also Quel'Danas isn't really open per se. It's more of place where lots of stuff is going on, places to run around, NPCs to walk past, etc. than a PvP zone.
